Anyone have any experience/views on this Parisian tailor?
How about Smalto Paris bespoke?
Cifonelli
Never used Cifonelli, and never likely to -- prices too high -- but the bespoke jacket they showed Matt and me was very nice.Anonymous wrote:Anyone have any experience/views on this Parisian tailor?

I would be very hesitant to use Smalto for anything bespoke now. I have the impression it is pretty much just a very expensive designer label. They do have some sort of men's couture shop but it would not surprise me if everything was made by someone else and just marked up.

There's a recent article on Cifonelli in Mens Vogue, I believe. Very expensive suits. But then, so is Paris excessively expensive. But I know nothing personally of their work....
Smalto, on the other hand, produced an exceptionally beautiful suit for a friend who I bumped into at an airport recently. Absolutely superb. Honestly, I was very surprised, but it had all of the upright rigor and sharp tailoring of a Savile Row suit with a bit of Italy in the forward choice of cloth and accessories.
What can I say, the guy looked like a new man, particularly as he had come back from a liver transplant a while back following a dissolute life and now, well, Smalto made him look like a million bucks with a new lease on life. That's good tailoring. I'd say that he's closing in on 80 and was off to Canne to visit the ladies and casino in high style. That's what a beautifully tailored suit can do for a man, if not bring you right back to life itself.
