Shirting widths?

Is there any difference between shirting in 36" and 60" widths, aside from the length one will need for a shirt? Are the 36" better, or just different?

Mostly just different, though 36" widths CAN be (but aren't necessarily) a sign of higher quality, since the old 36" looms are often very slow, and makers use them only to produce top stuff.

Interestingly that Acorn uses 36" width looms to produce their shirtings. Yet, Acorn's name usually doesn't pop up in disucssions of "top shirtings makers".
