Does anyone know or can anyone give recommendation for the work of
Mr. Advani in Australia (http://www.advanitailors.com.au/). He seems to travel
quite a bit between cities and I have seen his ads from time to time in local
magazines.

Looks like another "Hong Kong" tailor like Mohan's -- in one word -- avoid!

work is outsourced to Hong Kong. eeek! if you want a decent Australian product, come to Melbourne and get it made in Melbourne. we have a number of good bespoke tailors down here to sample. ones who have appreciate the superbness of H.Lesser, Loro Piana etc and make art with it.

Any names or personal experiences to share of the tailors from down under?

The bespoke tailors I have heard about in Melbourne are:

Adriano Carbone
Eliizabeth Street, Melbourne
Phone: (03) 9600 2422

Eugenio Nicolini
Bourke Street, Melbourne
Phone: (03) 9654 7811

Charles Maimone
Crossley Street, Melbourne
Phone: (03) 9662 1636

Denis Raftopoulos
Flinders Lane, Melbourne or Collins Street, Melbourne
Phone: (03) 9223 2441 or 9224 5330

I can recommend Adriano Carbone from experience, first hand. He is the cutter and master tailor. The suits he has made for me (I have trusted him with Lesser, Golden Bale) are excellent. He has also done work for me with alterations to jackets and trousers and I was most pleased with results.

I've always heard that Melbourne was a bit more refined, for lack of a better term, than Sydney. Is there a stronger bespoke or sartorial presence overall in Melbourne than in Sydney?

Yes, there are more in Melbourne. I would describe Melbourne is more dressier and classier in general when it comes to tastes in clothes.
