Shirt Front

Ideally, how much shirt front do you want to show when wearing a coat?
Some coats are cut so that the shirt shows as a steep "V". Long and narrow.
Some , with a wide V, with quite alot of shirt showing around the collar bone.
With numerous variations in between.
How wide and long should that 'V' be? And does the choice ultimately depend on one's body shape?
