Horn Buttons
Where can I get horn buttons in London? (I am having bespoke jacket made at home but I am not satified with the selection of buttons. I will be going to London soon)
Regent Street perhaps.Anonymous wrote:Where can I get horn buttons in London? (I am having bespoke jacket made at home but I am not satified with the selection of buttons. I will be going to London soon)
Same question but replace London with New York. Any good places to pick up horn buttons in the Big Apple?Anonymous wrote:Where can I get horn buttons in London? (I am having bespoke jacket made at home but I am not satified with the selection of buttons. I will be going to London soon)
On a related note: I was advised that I should not opt for horn buttons on my woolen MTM-trousers, because they would have to be taken off when I want to have them dry cleaned (lacking other methods of cleaning them).Anonymous wrote:Where can I get horn buttons in London? I would appreciate any input from the members. Should the info given to me be verified, I would also like to know it there is an issue with pearl buttons as well. It is not that I dry clean my shirts, but if horn is out of the question (dyed) pearl buttons may be an alternative.
Regards,
Don
During dry cleaning the horn is dried out and can acquire a grey, matt surface especially on the edge. All buttons should be at least covered in Muslin during dry cleaning to avoid scratches and cracks.
Savile Row does not usually use horn for trouser buttons.

And just how would (painted) pearl fare?Anonymous wrote:During dry cleaning the horn is dried out and can acquire a grey, matt surface especially on the edge. All buttons should be at least covered in Muslin during dry cleaning to avoid scratches and cracks.

Quite interested in getting rid of plastic, but not at the expense of a clean attire.
