Northern English Tailors

Not counting the obvious Savile Row expats it would seem that there are still one or two genuine bespoke tailors operating in cities in the north of England. Among others -

Chester - Crichton
Manchester - James Personal Tailor
Liverpool - Monk

I wondered if members had experience with any of these firms that they may care to report. Please pm if you would prefer not to make your views public. I am moving to the general vicinity later in the year and interested to know if there are viable local tailoring options.

Thomas Mahon is great. Everything I see from him is very very good.

I am sure that is true, and I would say the same for Steed. However, I do wonder whether there are some less well known firms out there that have been diligently practicing their craft for decades, pleasing their customers without attracting much attention. Once upon a time there must have been competent tailors in every large town; are there any survivors?

Very bad experience with Crighton a few years back, but nothing but praise for Des Merrion in Leeds.

Carl Stuart in Huddersfield seems an interesting option to explore. Head cutter has 50 years of experience.
