Not available in the UK until 24 September.

The Amazon blurb reads : " In True Style, fashion expert G. Bruce Boyer provides a crisp, indispensable primer for this daily ritual, cataloguing the essential elements of the male wardrobe and showing how best to employ them. Detailing the evolution of the most classic items and traditions in menswear—from fabrics like denim and linen, to staples like blazers and button-down shirts, to the rules for combining them all—Boyer reveals what true style looks like, and why."

A worthy aim, but surely a hostage to the fortune of future directions of fashion - or at least contrary views convincingly expressed in some opinionated sartorial forum or other (Can't think of any of those offhand...)

I ordered a copy of the book on Amazon, it should be delivered by Friday.

It will be interesting to read what I probably already know, but I'm still happy to have it as part of my library.

A few years ago, Boyer produced a book called "Black Tie", but it was never published.

I happened upon an advance copy.

Classic Boyer, a resume of his many years of great writing on the subject of Style. It is a must buy.

Well done (again) Bruce!

Cheers

Michael

Dear Michael,

My great good thanks for your imprimatur of "True Style". Praise from you is praise from Caesar indeed.

Bruce Boyer is the best writer on mens clothes. Period.

He is first and foremost an excellent writer.

The book is a collection of essays on various aspects of mens clothing, such as ascots, evening clothes, and Italian style. It is a compliment to his earlier collection of essays, "Elegance."

I attended the launch party at The Armoury last evening, and I look forward to reading the book.

Have ordered my copy.
Arriving next week.

But I thought that GBB was going to put together a "look book" of his various styles and moods but guess that this is not it.

I don't know if it was The Rake which published a nice portfolio of a few of GBB's outfits.

For me , photos trump prose and inspire.

Yeah, my copy arrived this morning, ordered through Amazon US!!

Shall have an enjoyable week slowly going through the 26 chapters which begin with
ascots and end near turtlenecks, subjects arranged alphabetically .
Best enjoyed during cocktail hour at home.

This is going to be fun!

This afternoon I had the time to read the first seven chapters of Mr. Boyer's new book.

Chapter five, entitled Craftsmanship, is probably some of Mr. Boyer's finest writing.

The chapter may only be six pages long, but the choice of words speak truth about what many of us here on the LL hold so very dearly.

And that is the respect we have for the people who produce items with passion.

Well done, Mr. Boyer! :)

Best Regards,

Agree.
Craftsmanship was a particularly excellent chapter and echoes the general appreciation found here in LL for the crafts.
Not yet finished with the book, but it feels as if, a fair amount was previously written in earlier books: articles on English country house look, boots, denim, evening dress …

Feels so far (gotten to chapter 12) quite repetitive of earlier works.

There should be a law against publishing books about sartorial style without photographs. The hand-drawn illustrations in this case are very few and superfluous. Even Mr. Boyer himself, in the bibliography at the back, praises those source books which have good pictures.

Happily, the book is also available in convenient tablet-friendly form from Amazon and iTunes.

A wonderful book. Go buy it.

Makes me want to get up and get dressed.

Lots of opinion, history, and advice.

More new material than I originally thought.
Yes, no photos. Why is that? Expense? Copyright?

Anyway …reached chapter 22 - Sprezzatura- and that
will be fun.

Chapters on Italian Style, Ivy Style, English Country House
Look - yes, please, I want them all!!
