Hopsack...suit?

I've owned for some time a blue blazer/jacket in hopsack weave and I find that it wears extremely well in warm meather (due to the 'open' weave and negligible lining) while not being insubstantial or flimsy. Is this a material that might be usefully employed in a suit? Any experience out there?

The Brisas and Mistrals are all hopsacks, so most people here seem happy with them.....

Dear Simon,
the Mistrals are hopsacks in my eyes, not the Brisas. The weave is quite different - Michael may correct me though, I don't know all his secrets
At Luca: hopsack is great for suiting. This is workhorse cloth, very breathable and with excellent drape.
Cheers, David

Hopsack is just a basket weave, and it could be in cotton, wool or linen. It´s light and durable, perfect for a warm weather jacket with little lining. But the basket weave is loose and a bit coarse with a tendency to sag, making it IMO less than ideal for a pair of trousers.
On the other topic, I´m not expert either but I agree with David: I don´t think Brisas are hopsacks. They look a plain weave to me.

There are heavier hopsacks in addition to Mistral-- Smith 14oz Steadfast is one, and the Lesser books have them in 13 and 16oz. If you need a business suit that will stand up to travel but breathe well enough to tolerate warm meeting rooms, that's a good place to start looking.

Correctamundo David. The Brisa is a top secret special weave. And the hearty Mistral is a hopsack.
Cheers

I have seen and worn clothes in Hopsack weave before. None, not even the Lesser's, comes close to the LL mistrals 18 ozs.

I just keep reading about these brilliant fabrics weighing in the teens (in ounces), here on LL. I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and try some; I'm just thinkign it will be devilishly hot...

Dear Luca,
ask Mr Mariano Rubinacci how much he sells of it in Naples. Right, Naples.
I can tell you it is his best selling cloth
Cheers, David

I'm just going to have to "cowboy the f*** up" and go for it. That's why I thought hopsack would be a good start.
