Hi Everybody,

i am placing this post, because of my job I want to buy some suits. In the past I have tried Huntsman & Stephan Hitchcook, had a view Brunello Cuccinelli jackets etc. With the british tailors however I've not been really happy and I now feel that prefer the Italian Style (soft shoulder, slim pants). Do you have any ideas, where I could go? Am pretty open, even if you say RTW from a special house is good, than I have no problem with it. What about Caruso, are they good in Bespoke? I want to spend somewhere 1500€ and am willing to travel within Europe, and combine it with a nice weekend.

Look forward hearing from you,

Philippe

Dear Philippe,

my advice would be
a) Work with a tailor in a city where you live or visit on regular basis. Everything else is cumbersome.
b) Stick with a tailor and develop a productive work relationship. This takes time - I would say 3, 4 suits. You went from Huntsman to Hitchcock - their style could hardly differ more. Then you look at RTW Cuccinelli...

I think you have to decide what you want, bespoke or RTW. Soft tailoring by Anderson & Sheppard (Hitchcock, Steed, Mahon et al.) is pretty close to what you can expect from italian tailors. Go to see a couple of tailors, discuss your ideas and decide with whom you want to work - it should be the one you expect to do the best for you. Rubinacci is in London of course, but likely not in the price range you mentioned (and not miles away from A&S et al.).

If you need a quick fix for your job, get 3,4 good MTM suits while you wait for bespoke suits being made up. But stick with a tailor and develop your own style with him.

cheers, David
