What trousers style to pair with smoking jacket?

I have read articles which recommend that one could wear [solid black trousers without satin/grosgrain silk side stripes] with velvet smoking jacket/dinner jacket.
What do you think?
What about single/double breasted shawl collar cream color dinner jacket? If one were to wear a midnight blue color trousers, should they have black or midnight blue satin/grosgrain silk stripes? Or one should keep them simple, ie, without silk stripes?
Thank you very much.

I don't think so. Normal dinner suit (single braided) trousers are worn with a smoking jacket.

The (off-)white or Burma shade dinner jacket is summer wear, worn with normal dinner suit trousers. My midnight blue dinner suit has midnight blue facings and braids.

A semi-formal odd jacket is still formal, thus the proper trousers are the usual dinner suit ones. To combine what is essentially lounge or business wear with a formal jacket would be too far of a reach. The standard business long tie is another. Resist the subtle erosion of style and taste at all cost for it is more damaging in the long run than the overt.
