Correct Shoes for Morningwear
Would it be possible for some to advise if the attached loafer is acceptable to wear with morningwear (in the UK)?
Many thanks

Is it black? Morning wear is one of the few areas I would say black shoes must be worn. Otherwise it is up to you, I wear black C&J Kemptons myself but plenty wear laced shoes of one sort or another.
Foster and son suggest a smart black slip-on 1/2 over your normal size, this shoe slips easily over your shooting or sporting socks, and works well for a wedding where you will be outdoors.

Every credible source I've seen states that toe-capped oxfords are good, but balmoral boots are better

I have seen every sort of black shoe worn with morning suits at a UK weddings. The conventional shoe might be a black Oxford shoe but it is not required and might be considered a boring choice. As well as Balmoral boots I have seen Chelsea and Jodhpur boots worn to goood effect. At a British wedding it is likely that every morning coat, waistcoat, shirt and trousers will be different (unless hired) and that there will be a sprinkling of grey morning suits as well. There will be no uniformity and unless you wear those horrible cheap square toed or clown shoes you will be fine whatever black shoe you wear.
Oxford balmoral boots and morning wear...a match made in heaven

Thanks for that, I was already having trouble deciding between the WS Foster and Edward Green Balmorals, and then you throw the G&G's in to muddy the waters even further

I would say the Foster Montrose in grey and black is the ultimate shoe for morning wear.

That's the way I was drifting too, partly because the Fosters are a couple of hundred quid cheaper (and with the budget for our honeymoon sprialing out of control this is important) and partly because the staff at Fosters seemed so much more friendly than those at EG.culverwood wrote:I would say the Foster Montrose in grey and black is the ultimate shoe for morning wear.
Having said that, I've a Court action being heard this spring which should free up a great deal of money; given the expense and stress the matter has caused for several years I'm tempted to treat myself to a pair of GG boots in brown or cherry with part of the costs awarded back to me.

I find the idea attractive but a bit showy/archaic. With a morning suit, I would wear a plain black box calf Oxford, with, at the most, some discreet stitching around the cap toe. Never a slip-on. Nothing too ornate (the third example below is pushing it). With a perfect shine, of course.culverwood wrote:I would say the Foster Montrose in grey and black is the ultimate shoe for morning wear.

The other thing to think about is dancing. Not as easy in boots as shoes.
I would agree with Frog in a suit, who I think is correct in what he says.

Another alternative, though with the caveat that most people in England do wear shoes rather than boots.

I'm a big fan of Herrings and I'm currently wearing a pair as my primary 'office shoes'. However the boots they offer are I think a bit too inexpensive for special occasions (and let's face it, wearing Morning Dress is only for special occasions). New & Lingwood do a similar but very nice looking model, but their website only pictures it in brown.
Having recently purchased a pair of C&J Northcote's I now fully agree with Culverwood about trying to dance in boots and for this reason I'll be skipping down the aisle in August wearing my much loved Church's Consuls.
For race days however I think a pair of black Crockett & Jones Northcote's with their Dainite soles are a good option.
