Springtime in Italy

I have a trip to Italy scheduled for next spring. My wife and I will spend four days in Florence at the end of March, four days in Positano at the beginning of April, and, finally, three days in Venice.

I am not asking for a long-range weather forecast, and I know that the vagaries of weather can play havoc with the best laid plans. But, for a trip like that, what sort of clothes would people suggest I take along? Are Positano and Venice too far apart, meteorologically speaking, to be able to wear the same suits and jackets in both places? Will I need warm weather clothes for Positano and cool weather clothes for Venice? And what of Florence at that time of year? I have never been to Italy outside of summer so I am asking for advice from those with more experience than I.

Dear Andy,

there may be temperature differences between Positano and the cities in the north, but don't expect more than 5-6 centigrades. To keep things simple, I would rely on the same suits but take some knit with you to add in case - cardigans, turtle necks, a slipover plus a rain coat.

End of March (or beginning of April) is still cold in all Italy. Basically weather start to change but you still have cold of winter so you need to dress for cold weather. No need to carry a heavy overcoat but you may want to take a light coat or as David suggested some knitwear with suits and jackets.

In my experience end of March - beginning of April the weather in Naples can be quite pleasant and Positano is not far away from Naples.
I would be OK with a spring/summer suit and a trench coat and an umbrella in hand when in town and would swap the trench coat for a warm pea coat in case you want to go for a boat trip around the coast line (it can be very windy).
