Dear Gentlemen,
There is a young lady from Austria near where I am. I am thinking about asking her out, but before that I would like some information on how typical men dress in Austria or Europe for that matter. Is it more sweater and tie - casual or like I see in some European movies shirt/sweater and scarf. And how would I structure a coat or sweater with a scarf.

Christian,
I would suggest you to be yourself if you decide to ask the young lady out. If she is to like you, she doesn't want you to look like anyone from Austria or elsewhere, she wants (and you want her) to see you as you are.
Dress the way you feel comfortable, so you don't add nervousness to this. Forget the scarf and coat scheme if you've never tried it, you'll feel awkward and, if there is any sex appeal, this is sure to kill it.
Also, forget typical men and typical dress. Nobody is "typical". In Oscar Wilde's words - be yourself; everyone else is taken.
Is this making any sense to you?
If you need some scarf inspiration, here it is:
Some of these look more dramatic than others.
Then, there are dates and dates...

Thanks Costi, it does make sense. Always appreciate sound advice.
Depends on your attitude, your style. You shall not care what norms are. Whatever you feel comfortable in (no socks in sandals or the like).
