I was reading the final Quiller spy novel by Adam Hall and there's a sequence where he's provided with a number of bespoke items which were made in London while he was overseas. The items are high quality but slightly flashy to give the illusion of a Russian criminal.
They include several pairs of hand-tooled shoes including some in Russian calf including snowboots. These are described as being made by Simpson and Webb. Does anyone know if there was ever a bootmaker of that name. My instinctive reaction upon hearing Russian calf mentioned was New and Lingwood or Cleveley . However the author uses other names of existing products such as Givenchy cologne.
Thank you.
