Check out Cable Car Clothiers on Bush St.

The Hound and Wilkes Bashford both on Sutter St.

If you like cars you can check out 901 Van Ness Ave. which is British Motor Cars, but what's really neat about the showroom is that many years ago it use to a Packard dealership.

Best Regards,

If you are looking for the traditional english look, conservative look, then maybe The Hound or Cable Car Clothiers are both good. there is also Patrick James. If you want fine Italian like Kiton, Brioni, etc., then Wilkes Bashford on Sutter street is tops (worth going to despite a pretty abrasive sales staff), and the San Francisco Saks 5th Ave. mens store is very good, as is the mens department at neiman marcus. If you like Attolini, there is actually a nice mens boutique on Geary St. that carries it named "de Corato." Horace is very helpful there. For stylish retro, go to Nomad in Hayes valley. Hayes Valley is also home to good shoe stores with individual character like Paolo shoes and Gimme shoes. If you are in the mood for American vintage, then Old Vogue in North Beach is great. If you need a tailor while in SF, George and Ravi at Seymours are very good.

Enjoy the city!

thanks for all the help. Not too long after I got here, I discovered that the place (perhaps the country) has forgotten that men may have chests as small as 36 inches. I'm sure I'll spark outrage by saying this, but tailoring here seems terrible. From what I've seen, there is a total infatuation with Italian tailoring (imo, preferable for men of a more continental build) and anything referred to as British tailoring is entirely boxy.
Wilkes Bashford was nice, although I hate that they feel the need to sew their own labels onto clothing.
Ralph Lauren would have been interesting but they too suffered from a lack of 36" clothing and thus I have spent my time accessory shopping only.
I've seen a little Tom Ford, but because of the prices, I haven't enquired as to their sizes.
Lastly, I would like to note how often I've been mildly offended by shop assistants here who seem to assume that youth means ignorance in their field.

Things that annoyed me:
Being told I needed a 38 long
Being told that I was too fashion focused for a tailor
Being told that white tie events called for double cuffs
Being told that America has better tailoring than the UK (Wilkes...)
Being told that a tie needn't come anywhere near one's trousers.
I could go on probably.
