The media coverage of Prince William has been intense, and there are many photographs of him taken on the day of the announcement of his engagement. I'm interested in the plain navy suit he wears in these photos. (I'd post a photo, but not quit certain how to do it). It looks like a fairly heavy cloth, firm shoulders, nipped waist SB with three buttons, lapel rolling to the top button.

What interests me about the suit is the button and button hole placement. When buttoned, the left side of the coat overlaps the right side a little more than I'm used to seeing, as if the buttons and button holes were sewn a little further from the edge. (An exaggerated version of this might be a DB coat.)

I like the look; what do you call this? Is there a history or a particular reason for it? What kind of figure would you expect this to flatter?

Thanks,

C

I do know that Prince William is a client of Gieves & Hawkes. He seems to favor SB jackets over DB jackets like the ones his father wears.
