I recently ordered a bunch of fabric samples from Brookster, partly because I'm considering ordering a pair of trousers and partly because of my curiosity (my experience with fabrics is not very extensive). I realise that fabric samples aren't enough to determine how well a cloth will tailor since you can't see how it falls and drapes for yourself, but still it is an interesting experience for e beginner to toy around with the samples.
The samples are two 15oz Harris Tweeds, one 17.5oz Lovat Mill Cheviot Tweed, one 14oz. Fox's flannel/cashmere and one 12oz Harrisons worsted flannel.
I'm a little surprised, though, that none of these fabrics pass the "roll test" as explained by Alden in this thread: http://www.thelondonlounge.net/forum/vi ... nch#p29181. I know that a mill with good credentials doesn't necessarily equal good cloth, but still I'd expect the manufactures above to produce cloth of considerable quality.
The sample cloths don't exactly collapse in my pincher, they all feel quite springy to me, but none of them will roll. Might I be doing something wrong in the rolling department?
Pince, squeeze and roll

I would not have expected any of the fabrics you cited to "roll." As far as LM's cheviot is concerned, like many mills, they make many different qualities/weaves according to the spec of the client. They do have a 17.5 cheviot that is a stunning roller, probably the best made anywhere today. The tweed chosen by your supplier was not the right one.
Cheers
