s-b peak lapel?
Hello.
What do you gentlemen think of single-breasted peak lapels on a jacket? Do you prefer the more conventional notched lapel?
Thank you.

You see, I am thinking of having a three piece bespoke suit and I am indecisive as to whether the jacket be made with peak or notched lapels...Please help!
It is quite a heavy tweedy grey/charcoal herringbone fabric...it looks very luxurious. I am not sure as to its purpose though. I am meeting my tailor tomorrow and I need to make up my mind.
The choice is yours, of course. Were I to commission a three-piece SB from a heavy tweed, I doubt I'd have anything other that a 3B notch.

Does, however, a three-piece suit look good with a peak lapel? I have not seen many, but my friends have recently had suits done with peak lapels but they did not have a waistcoat.
I vastly prefer notch lapels.
In the event I got a 3-piece I would definitely got notch lapels since a vest is already somewhat out of the ordinary.

Sort of a 1930s touch, but I can see it looking very good in a heavier herringbone or a tweed.Anonymous wrote:Does, however, a three-piece suit look good with a peak lapel? I have not seen many, but my friends have recently had suits done with peak lapels but they did not have a waistcoat.
What about a Tautz lapel - where the lower lapel notch is parallel with the ground and the upper part either contiguous or at a slight angle?

I have a brown Donegal tweed three piece suit with a peak lapel suitcoat. I don't think the lapel shape made a whole lot of difference at the end of the day. Perhaps the suit looks a bit more old-fashioned than it might have otherwise looked but I can't really say.

If you look at the third photograph here: http://thelondonlounge.net/gl/forum/vie ... php?t=7568 you will see the man is wearing a single-breasted peak laep three piece suit. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong, it adds a lot of personality to the suit. However, I don't think the suit is made of tweed, but someone who knows more should comment on this. The fabric is not in herringbone pattern, but its in a small check I believe, and it seems like that can't make the combination go wrong. Also note that there is clearly the influence of fashion on this suit, and that 1969 suit might not work now, but the basic (peak lapels, single-breasted, 3 piece) characteristics won't stop working because of this. I hope it helps, let us know what you choose in the end.

Single breasted peak lapel tweed suits were no unheard of (no vest here though). BUT it may be tricky. With a notch lapel you're safe for the kind of cloth and suit (3 piece) you intend to do.
