Buttons on Suit Jacket and Pants
I have seen discussions here about using different materials for the buttons on the jackets and pants, but I have a more general question: is it necessary for color of the buttons on the jacket to match the (visible) buttons on the pants? The reason I ask is that I scavenged some great horn buttons that I would like to add to a suit I have, but they are quite a bit darker than the corozo buttons on the pants. Thank you.
What you are describing is unusual.
I have seen two methods - buttons on coat and trousers match or trousers use a smoked pearl button or special wok shaped plastic button regardless of what is on the coat.
One possibility, if you don't have cut buttonholes on the sleeve is to use one less pair of scavenged sleeve buttons on the coat and put them on the trousers.
If that doesn't work, I have no other advice besides use your judgment. It is hard to imagine the combination you describe as being so off that it is unwearable but since you don't have to make the switch, the setup might look better left alone.
