Re: Bespoke shirts: the Details

While we're on the subject can anyone recommend a shirtmaker based in London? Who are members using these days? And are they able to produce a shirt with a soft button-down collar?

Re: First bespoke suit: Firenze via Ōsaka

Dear Bird,
You have my sympathy. It's such a pleasure when a bespoke garment comes off right, and such a disappointment if it doesn't. I'm sure most of us here are well acquainted with both of these feelings.

Comparisons are invidious but I'm currently wavering between A&S and Steven Hitchcock. I'd be grateful for any thoughts.

A&S update

Nearly a decade ago Mr Hitchcock at A&S cut me a wonderful DB suit. I'm considering having some more clothes made there, but I know Mr Hitchcock's no longer wielding the shears. Can members who use A&S tell me if and how things have changed since Mr Hitchcock's retirement?

Re: Made To Measure

I'm really surprised at what I'm reading in this thread. MTM is, in my experience, a world away from bespoke. The clothes made for me by great tailors (and the same is true of my genuinely bespoke shirts and shoes) bear no comparison with factory-made garments, even if the factory-made garments fit ...

smart not smart

I've been invited to Hogmanay in a grand Scottish country house. While the hostess has asked her guests to change for dinner she stipulates that we shouldn't wear dinner jackets ("smart but not black tie"). What should I wear? I don't like to wear tweed jackets in the evening and lounge suits feel v...

Re: Trenchcoat. Why not?

This thread reminds me that I've seen some promising images of a Japanese brand called Coherence, which seems to make trench coats to order in the generous and even dramatic cuts that likely appeal to us Loungers. Has anyone here tried a Coherence coat?

Re: Custom belts

Equus leather. Charlie Trevor is a pleasure to deal with, and the products have never disappointed. I've had belts and watch straps from him, and can warmly recommend both.

Re: Bespoke shirtmaker

It's really extraordinary that, AFAIK, there isn't a shirtmaker who can be recommended without qualification. I last used Mary Frittolini and was pleased with the results, but I have not been able to get back to Paris for a few years. And now I discover that I won't be going! Has anyone tried any of...

By my count we now have four members keen to proceed. Can we tempt one more member to join us so that we reach the five subscribers necessary to move this forward?

Re: Fall dress ideas

A huge thumbs up to the idea of flannel for shirts. I'd be very interested in this as I really like the idea of thick outdoorsy shirts but my body is not the same shape as the ones upon which the RTW makers base their patterns. There are some great heavy flannel shirtings used by Japanese brands lik...

I do hope that an LL collection of Sardinian knives is forthcoming now that you've tempted us with these wonderful shots.
