Nicholas - the use of sun block is to stop the colour fading... Direct, prolonged sunlight tends to break up the pigment... certain colours are affected more than others. Marc - You are correct that the talents of the tattooer will affect the longterm quality of the tattoo. An experienced and renown...

Bicycles

Thinking about the question of "The End Of The Petroleum Era" posted elsewhere here, I was wondering what the fellow Loungers thought of bicycling as an elegant way to travel and a nice antidote to the fuss and bustle of modern life. I highly recommend Abici bicycles from Italy as modern manufacture...

Aha.. A topic very close to my heart. I am heavily tattooed, mostly done between the ages of 16 and 30. I have coverage from below my neck line to the tops of my feet. I am incredibly interested in the history and culture of tattooing, as well the technical and craft side of it as well.. I read exte...

I heartedly recommend Voyages Jules Verne for their cruises, classic destinations, full itineraries and commitment to railway travel:

This year, we hope to undertake the Nile Cruise on a reconditioned Royal steamer. My Hercule Poirot fantasies come true!

I thought Ozwald came across incredibly badly - seemingly unable to form anything approaching constructive or meaningful opinion, managing to fill an hour with vague allusions to "vibe", "energy" and "spirit".. I think this put the all-too-brief interviews with Messrs Hitchcock, Ramroop and Allen in...

A modern 'stylish' musician is an oxymoron surely? Au contraire, e.g.: http://www.exposay.com/celebrity-photos/wynton-marsalis-movado-celebrates-60-years-of-modern-design-and-the-2007-future-legends-award-recipients-cIfp6e.jpg And don't call me Shirley. Roger, roger... Ah yes - the exception that p...

Marvellous! Black it is...

Nicholas - In your opinion, would black be a suitable colour for day and evening wear?

True - But I have a chocolate brown Ulster/Polo and a charcoal grey covert coat..

My natural instinct is to go for a DB camel hair with the shawl collar, but I am worried it will look a little too All Capone..

The astrakhan collar (or half collar) is definitely the way to go - I bought a length of it 53" by 13" recently with the express purpose of getting a coat made...

What I can't decide on is whether to go for camel hair, charcoal, midnight blue or black...

Speaking as a larger figured gentleman (48" chest / 42" waist / 6' tall), I have to say that yes, one has to wear the suit trouser on the hip to gain any kind of elegance... In fact, my introduction and reason for discovering bespoke and made to measure was out of the frustration of finding any suit...

Mr Storey - Picked up the book just before Xmas, and it was a great comfort and companion as the inevitable Christmas flu struck me down and kept me housebound... As has been stated above, it is very approachable and a delightful read. I urge all LL'ers to get yourself a copy! Kudos to you! And I am...

A modern 'stylish' musician is an oxymoron surely? Aside from Bryan Ferry, I cannot think of one well turned out muso since the early 60's Ivy League West Coast Jazzers... Recent attempts by Arctic Monkeys and Jon Lydon to embrace English tweed/country looks have backfired thanks to the ill fitting ...

Jermyn Street is feeling effects of the economic downturn already. Crombie is closing its store and Dunhill left a few months ago. Dunhill have re-opended their Jermyn St shop with half the space they used to have. Indeed they have, but if you visit the new Dunhill flagship townhouse(!) on Davies S...

Thank you, Nicholas.. I fear even their reasonable prices may be a little rich for my blood this time out.. They charge £1300, I believe... A few people have recommended George in Haringay - very close to both my work and home. I've seen a lot of the suits he makes for the Mods in London.. Anyone ev...
