This is interesting. Begs the question would the Row survive without the recent influx of new ownership.

Re: David Ward, an old new SR tailor
David made me a suit at the end of 2014 and it's an outstanding piece of work.
He is currently finishing a coat and a pair trousers for me, and they too look spectacular.
Highly recommended.

Standard of SR RTW?
I work in the Hatton Garden area. We have one of those Italian men's shops where a "£699" suit is on offer for £199 and five shirts cost £99. You know the ones. This morning I was trekking to the office and there was a guy exiting the front door of said shop with eight full suit carriers, all brande...

Sunday Times Magazine
Can't post it, as the website won't allow me to put up images, but for those inclined/able, check out AA Gill's piece in the Sunday Times Magazine where he has many of the top Savile Row names included in his article. Seeing this array reminds me of the quality and heritage of the Row.

Re: I wonder about SR quality
Some of guys have a very strange idea of what is acceptable. This is bugger all to do with what I specify or not - I gave detailed instructions and they were delivered, no issue. My point was despite the delivery, some of these garments weren't finished properly or started to deteriorate rapidly. An...

Re: I wonder about SR quality
OK, ok I wish I had never mentioned cars ;) To David's last post, I have used four tailors on the Row over the years (since 1995), which is a pretty good cross section, so I'm most certainly not tarring the whole of the Row. I think my overall point is, the further I have moved up the ladder in term...

Re: I wonder about SR quality
"On quality. I like a good car. If I buy a nice Porsche it tends to be reliable and not need to go back to the workshop because a body part has come loose. I have always admired Ferrari and when my new car arrives, I don't expect to have to be nice to the workshop technician in order he sends it to...

Re: I wonder about SR quality
I hear what you say David, but two points - The "hm" in your first comment suggests a question over my using two tailors for a number of commissions in a short period. I was building my wardrobe, hence the number. The cutter who led the first suit was the one who did the last suit from the second ho...

Re: I wonder about SR quality
Two tailors, two cutters (one who did the first and last items, having moved).
I have had three suits and the aforementioned jacket from one tailor, the last three in a short period. One suit from the last tailor.

I wonder about SR quality
I bought a three piece suit in the last 18 months, the waistcoat split on a front seam, the owner said it hadn't been made correctly, when it was taken back. I bought an odd jacket a year ago, the lining has come apart in two places, the inner lining on both sleeves is detaching. This will be the se...

Re: Huntsman changes hands
I understand the commercial need for these changes of ownership, but it does concern me that the old spirit of Savile Row is disappearing: Huntsman with new ownership and collaborations with fashion houses; Norton & Sons spending a lot of time on E Tautz; Gieves & Hawkes now in new hands. I hope we ...
