Re: First bespoke: What fabric for navy blazer?

Thank you for the kind comments! I'm lucky to have a girlfriend that puts up with my obsessive sewing... I will post pictures of my Lesser 16 oz blazer shortly to demonstrate the cloth. The baste is fitted and waiting to be made up. Of course I'm only a beginner and my work does not come anywhere ne...

Re: First bespoke: What fabric for navy blazer?

My current thoughts on "dressing your age" for people in their 20s. You will look good in plain colours in a classic cut that flatters your body. I personally find plain colours very "modern." If you want to be a bit different, try a unique shade like aubergine, blue, green, brown, but keep it under...

Re: First bespoke: What fabric for navy blazer?

I recently made a navy blazer for my girlfriend out of Dugdale 8729 (navy plain blazer cloth) from the Formal Wear book. This is a fantastic cloth. It is a barathea type weave, so it has a bit of surface interest. It's quite a matte finish (a positive quality in my eyes) and is very crease resistent...

Re: First bespoke: What fabric for navy blazer?

I'm currently making a jacket out of H. Lesser's 16 oz navy 29616.

I love it, very full bodied cloth with a dry finish. The texture of the weave is quite visible. Perfect blazer cloth.

English and Town Classics is excellent cloth too, and a very good value.

Re: Mersolair linen for suit?

Can't speak for the Harrisons' linen but I have had good experience with Hardy's linen. Weighing a bit more, it is very robust and actually feels heavier than a wool worsted of similar weight. I imagine it creases less than the flimsier options. Dugdale is a bit lighter I believe also. You will be c...

Re: Fresco Tousers

I'm in love with the heavy Fresco. It's a shame it comes in so few colors. I have a fully lined black sport jacket that I wear comfortably in hot Canadian summer days (30 C). The lining is the most open-weave material I could find - it's available from The Lining Company out of the UK as their Cupro...

Re: Full Review - Richard Lim Tailor & Finished Summer Jacke

The 3 piece suit looks very nice as well. Once again, I think you have a found yourself a wonderful tailor. There is some slight excess at the blades which is often left intentionally for comfort. The balance looks fine by my humble estimation. In the front shot with the jacket unbuttoned the fronts...

Re: Looking for reccomendations for open weave wool

Here is my latest jacket in Thomas Fisher Cape Breeze. It's 8oz 70% wool 30% summer kid mohair. I haven't really had a chance to wear it yet on a hot day but I'm hoping it will be light and airy. I've cut it a bit easier than my other creations. http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l491/dkst/brownjac...

Re: Full Review - Richard Lim Tailor & Finished Summer Jacke

I really like this jacket. The rounded corners and lapel shape make it quite unique, in my opinion, and set it apart from anything you could easily find RTW. The cloth looks perfect for a summer jacket. The fit is spot on to my eye. And the value is unbelievable. I think you've found yourself an exc...

Re: Looking for reccomendations for open weave wool

Thanks. The puppytooth is a more casual jacket intended to be worn with jeans. It's got a contrasting grey flannel collar and elbow patches. http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l491/dkst/p3.jpg http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l491/dkst/p4.jpg http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l491/dkst/p2.jpg ...

Re: Looking for reccomendations for open weave wool

I consider this DB one of my cooler wearing coats, and I'm quite sensitive to heat. I'm sure being double breasted makes a small difference in warmth, but it's a compromise I'm willing to make for the style. New Fine Worsted is my go-to cloth. I have another single breasted coat in navy puppytooth, ...

Re: Summer lining

Your tailor probably has more experience than I do. I have a double breasted coat with a 100% acetate lining and I don't find it warm at all. But this is very subjective. Anecdotal reports like mine aren't very scientific. Since most linings are tightly woven and don't breathe much, one of their mos...
