Re: London & Paris recommendations

Locke & Co is a nice shot to visit, even just to look and try on the hats. I must've been there 2 hours just trying on hats and not a peep from the salespeople. They aren't pushy and were glad to assist when it was asked for. I can't think of many shops that had the right balance of quality goods, p...

Re: Respect for The Craftsmen...

I have made a few items at the same shops, and at least half the time some detail is incorrect or forgotten. However, they're almost all more insignificant than a back pocket. I've chalked it up to part of the risk of custom made clothes. On one hand, you are able to specify fit and details that you...

Re: Made To Measure

I don't follow his blog, but I have seen pictures of him wearing different jackets and the one you linked looks better on him than many others I've seen.

He usually looks a little heavy near the hips and it's better hidden with this jacket (not sure if that cardigan underneath helps though).

Re: New English Bespoke Shirtmaker: Wil Whiting

I worked with an Englishman years ago who I believe wore a T&A shirt with small knot. Looked very much like Former President of Egypt Nasser. It's a seldom seen, but very flattering combination. http://docplayer.ru/docs-images/63/50086210/images/205-0.jpg http://enistoria.eni.com/sites/default/files...

Re: Why Brown Shoes Can Ruin Your Career in London Banking

In my experience, success in the financial world often follows success in dealing with people. Unlike other professions, such as technology or science, where your success depends on hard skills and an understanding in science, working in finance is about dealing with people, managing expectations an...

Re: An interview with Bernhard Roetzel

You cannot do style, you have to let style do you. You cannot will it to happen, you have to allow it to thrive. You don’t have to go anywhere, and you do not have to ask anyone else for permission to get it because you already have it. It cannot be willed into being by the rational, thinking porti...

The only one I don't quite like is the boat shoes image channeling the Duke of Windsor. The trousers should sit higher.

Re: Paris and Fittings at Charvet: Tips?

Foo We all have blood curdling tales from Africa. I could entertain for days with stories of real commercial treachery. Its a bit of the challenge of S. Italy in general. That is why I steered Matt from SF towards Rubinacci many years ago, because it was the only place I felt secure about. You, unf...

Re: The cost, margin and value of (British) bespoke

... Adding in cloth to the cost might make it closer to $3750 or 2330 GBP, but that is a bit less than what bespoke tailoring costs these days. You will have to add rent, insurances etc. And you will have to add 20% VAT. And you're almost there. I also forgot the internet marketing expense. Tumblrs...

Re: Does anyone else leave the bottom vest button done up?

I imagine it depends on the vest.

In this below image of Sean Connery, it would appear that the bottom button of his vest was meant to be unbuttoned:

Re: The cost, margin and value of (British) bespoke

If a suit takes ~75 hours as mentioned in the NYTimes article and customers paid $40 per hour (approx 25 GBP), a suit would be $3000 (1865 GBP). Adding in cloth to the cost might make it closer to $3750 or 2330 GBP, but that is a bit less than what bespoke tailoring costs these days. You might argue...

It seems like to me the B&W photos actually show more contrast of the jacket's colors.

Moustaches

This probably seems a little silly, but I happen to be in the midst of growing out my moustache. From my limited knowledge (purely gained from growing it for the past few weeks), it seems I need to trim the bottom part, just above the lips, so that there is a space between the hair and my lips. But ...
