Re: What is your choice for blazer buttons?

I went with the three lions brass colored for my navy blazer. I bought the jacket from Anderson and Sheppard, but Benson & Clegg has a similar one, within their array of choices alluded to by the previous posters.

Re: RIP Charlie Watts

Twenty-four years ago this November, a former workmate of mine called and said, "What are you doing next Sunday?" I said, "Nothing." He said, "Yes you are. We'll send a limo for you and your wife; you're going to The Rolling Stones concert at Dodger Stadium." (My colleague was an executive at Sprint...

Re: Trench coat?

If you really want a trench coat, there is one, and only one, option: get a Burberry. Everything else is a copy. Burberry's heritage line is a reasonable facsimile of their poly/cotton coat from 40+ years ago, except that it is 100% cotton gabardine. There is nothing flashy about it, except that it...

Re:

Alload Welcome to the LL. This is a "pagoda" shoulder. It is most often used in women's couture . It is a highly stylized shoulder that requires mountains of padding. We see it in some French bespoke tailoring of the past combined with a narrow, close to the body silhouette. Many find the look a bi...

Thanks very much. Sage and unexpected advice. Love the comment about feeling like you're shouting when you wear high-contrast outfits.

Navy Or Midnight Blue Tie With A Navy Suit

Am about to get some grenadine ties from Sam Hober. Two choices in the blue category: either what they call "soft" navy blue or a midnight blue. If I were to pair the tie with a navy suit and go for a monochromatic look, which tie color would you choose? Not sure if it's better for the suit/tie to b...

Tipping Options for Bespoke Ties

Okay, gurus of all things sartorial. Am about to order some bespoke ties from Sam Hober. What are your thoughts on self-tipped vs. being tipped in a complementary fabric? And for those of you who say "neither" (because you go with an untipped option), I think I've eliminated untipped because i want ...

Re: Bespoke Black and White Houndstooth Sportcoat

Here's my update on this post (I know you've all been waiting with bated breath): I followed your wise counsel, took a deep breath, and went ahead and commissioned the jacket in a larger black and white houndstooth pattern, to make sure it read as a sportcoat and not an orphaned suit jacket. I'm gla...

Re: Herb Alpert

I went to a charity event a few years ago and Herb Alpert was one of the honorees. At the end of the evening, we were in line together, waiting for the valets to returns our cars. I mentioned being a fan of his Whipped Cream and Other Delights album and quickly moved to the question that had been bu...

How's this Fox flannel for size of check? https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61D1tdC%2BU-L.jpg CBT9 A0053/11 I have a 3 piece suit in the Dugdale 8711 from their Formal Wear collection but the pattern is probably too small for you. The Fox flannel may work. Would you happen to know th...

My other problem—even if I can commit to a larger pattern—is that we live in a very warm weather climate. My impression is that the larger houndstooth fabrics are usually in...

Re: Bespoke Black and White Houndstooth Sportcoat

Re. the question about the type of white to favour, personally I think that something like cream is more wearable than 'brilliant white', on a garment other than a shirt. Agree on the idea that if you have to get a jeweler's loupe to spot the pattern, it's more suiting than jacketing, IMO. Your "je...

Re: Bespoke Black and White Houndstooth Sportcoat

Thanks, Michael. The ones I'm considering are much smaller—really don't see that it's houndstooth until you're pretty close up, and registers as grey solid from farther back. The Duke of Windsor looks great, but I'm more conservative and don't think I could pull off the scale of fabric in his jacket...
