More important than the presence of 5% silk is how it is woven. Raw silk can be quite rough in texture and similar in feel to linen. Again, that too is secondary in importance to how it is woven, and how heavy the cloth is.
The silk content is 15% and the weight is 230 gms

Any thoughts on the Scabal Mohair/Linen/Silk 50/35/15 mix; especially as regards the utility of the silk element?

thank you pvpatty and sator.

I have similar concerns but the Loro Piana people in London say that Cashmere "only maintains body temperature" and that the fabric is a summer cloth. I would have thought that body temperature would be warm too in summers!

Seeking views on fabric for a summer suit

I have seen Loro Piana fabric that is 50/50 Cashmere and Linen, and another by Scabal that is 50/35/15 Mohair, Linen and Silk. Members' views on the relative advantages of the two fabrics in context of use for a summer suit would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks

... the Kilgour view as I understand it is that there is no difference in the materials used (for identical fabric, cut, etc) as between entry level and other bespoke That is correct, but not strictly relevant. The cloth is selected from the same sources that one would use in London (Lessers, Smith...

For example I do not see how Kilgour bespoke is superior to its entry level bespoke. (One does pay larger sums though in the former case). The chief difference that I am able to fathom that one is stitched in Shanghai (under Kilgour quality control) whilst the other is put together in (or rather un...

There are a variety of styles and a range of prices available in Savile Row. My own thoguths are that money is important and one must try and comprehend just what s/he is paying for. For example I do not see how Kilgour bespoke is superior to its entry level bespoke. (One does pay larger sums though...

Good point! Because, it is worth keeping an open mind and not be overly captured by a "brand name mind set", and look deeper at whether the requirement is being met elsewhere more economically

I also recall a Savile Row shop with a John Michael sign in the late 1960s. There were definitely RTW shirts in the window, (possibly also other RTW garments but on this point I am not 100% certain).

Just for the record, I have always had a prompt reply to any email sent to Edward Green at Jermyn St store, and my emails can be quite frequent during their twice yearly sale. I am a little surprised at the negative experience being reported by others

A 10 oz flannel, or for that matter even an 11 oz flannel, raises the issues of durability as well as maintaining shape, given the nature of this particular fabric, I would say

While we are discussing flannel suits, what might be the experience of forum members with lighter flannels such as Holland and Sherry Viceroy 11 oz weights or other similarly lighter weights in spring/fall?
