Re: Perfumes

Excellent recommendation, David! There is so much disinformation out there, almost everything people think they know about perfumes is nonsense. But Luca Turin knowns what he is talking about. He's also clever, sharp, funny, and a good writer.

Re: A question on gloves

I have a small assortment of gloves, almost all of them unlined and I like it that way. If the leather and stitching is of great quality, lining is only necessary for really harsh conditions and otherwise just gets in the way. I wear the peccary and brown the most, they are very versatile. Brown can...

Re: Perfumes

As one data point, after five or six years in my closed medicine cabinet away from light, my Tabac Blond pure parfum from the urns, in the stopper bottle, is about 80% used, and no doubt somewhat more concentrated from slight evaporation of alcohol. The color of the remaining juice is darker, and t...

Re: Perfumes

On perfume preservation. No-one knows more about this subject than the people who created the Osmotheque. They keep the perfume in an aluminum container at a constant temperature of 12 degrees celsius, filled up with argon to remove oxygen. These substances are meant to be kept for eternity. The wor...

Re: Perfumes

It seems that my previous reply somehow got lost. This is the gist of it,

Couch, congratulations with you purchase. It checks all the boxes,

- tester bottle
- with box
- full
- right colour

You've got a genuine piece of old world luxury coming your way. They don't make them like this anymore.

Re: Mens Shoes

An additional tip for some, My shoes soles get a lot of wear on the front, so I routinely get steel toe plates fitted under the tip of the soles when the shoes are new. Just take any old pair and inspect the soles. It depends on the way you walk. If the front tip has taken a great deal of damage, th...

Re: Perfumes

I wish you wouldn't call me uninformed when you know zero about me. I have plenty of experience, and almost all scents of natural composition go off after a decade or so. Guerlain Vetiver is not a scent of 'natural composition'. The juice contains more synthetics than naturals (about 80% synthetics...

Sorry, but that is simply and plain to see not true, and I wish you wouldn't make such uninformed, bold statements to confuse people.

Cheers.

Re: Perfumes

Yes, that's original, but it's the aftershave. I am not familiar with it. Aftershaves are usually cheapened formula and contain lower dosage of the perfume, with some moisturiser added instead. Sometimes they smell different altogether. Go for the eau de cologne or eau de toilette, they are out ther...

Re: Perfumes

The testers come in plain, white cardboard boxes. Most bottles on the market today are testers. They are usually (if not always) the rectangular type, I will show the bottle below. The retail boxes (they are rare now) come in different designs, here are the most common types, http://4.bp.blogspot.co...

Re: Perfumes

Couch, you have obviously smelled the reformulation. Try to find the original masterpiece. It's a 10, the second best would be an 8 and that's exceptional. The current edition (I would give it a 7) comes in a bottle that looks like the original bottle, but all the details (cap, nozzle, borders on la...

Re: Perfumes

Couch, this topic has been discussed before. Start from page 13, then check page 12 and 11 too. There might be more, I don't remember, but that's basically all you need to know.
