Re: Extra long ties?

Two other Italian firms that will make "bespoke" ties to order. I have lovely ties from both. In Rome, http://www.eziopellicano.com/ I have only dealt with the shop, but there are people there with passable English, so I am sure you could work by phone or email. I have so done with these Neopolitans...

Re: Good shirtmaker in UK

I used Frank Rostron for several years when I lived in Manchester, and always found them excellent, but I haven't used them for several years since moving to London. At that time they had no minimum order and were (relatively) reasonably priced. I have no experience of their attitude to customer-sup...

Re: Savile Row protest

For those who might wish to make a more dignified contribution to the cause, there is an online petition: http://www.petition.co.uk/save-savile-row-from-abercrombie-fitch/ There are (as I write) almost 1500 signatures, from many parts of the world, and the site does take some trouble to verify signa...

Thanks for the tip, but they too are currently out of stock, according to their website. I will keep looking!

Re: Shaving soap

I've been an afficionado of Trumper's Sandalwood soap for a while now, but my stocks are running dangerously low, as the last couple of times I have been in to ask for it they have been out of stock - and they admitted that is company-wide, not just the off-Jermyn Street barbers where I've been call...

Re: Tom Baker, Soho — Impressions — or Other Suggestions?

I have had a few commissions with Mr Craig at C+L over the last few years, and he is indeed charming, eccentric, extremely knowlegeable.. and really rather ancient. He has only done three days a week at the shop for some time now, and I understand he is in the process of handing over to Mr Nagashima...

Re: Best luxurious cashmere fabric

Davies & Son (38 Savile Row) recently made me a cashmere jacket with which I am totally delighted. They had several books of cashmere and their Mr Lawless gently steered me away from my first choice, a 10oz John G Hardy (#103614, http://www.hfwltd.com/bobb.php?b=jgh&c=9&p=2#thumb ) to a far more sui...

Re: Silk Scarves

A month or so ago I acquired a lovely silk/cashmere scarf from Davies and Son on Savile Row for a very reasonable sum - £30 I think. (I remember when I had a reliable memory... or perhaps I don't). Anyway, they were having a bit of a clearout - hence the sharp price, and they only had a few left - g...

Re: National Dress

Davidhuh - thankyou for posting the obit - lots of stuff there that was new to me; fascinating.
For the avoidance of doubt I should add, for NJS, that when I earlier labelled her "ever cheerful" I was being sarcastic!

Re: National Dress

I have just come across this thread, and Costi's marvellous pictures of Princess Marie. They recall to mind the wonderful lines of the ever-cheerful Dorothy Parker: Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song, A medley of extemporanea; And love is a thing that can never go wrong; And I am Marie of Romania.

Re: Turn of century flapped breast pocket

For a variation on this theme... This was made for me last year by Mr Craig at Connock & Lockie. The flapped breast pocket was his suggestion.
