Charles, you go ahead. Unless you are of stocky build, as tartan trews really only suit the taller frame.
Remember wear black brogue, highly polished shoes, as in the Lowland Regiments, but pass on the white spats!

Hi Rodes, I do mean buttoning and unbuttoning of a D/B jacket, otherwise the garment becomes horizontally creased.

Very amusing, Costi. Great illustrations by the way, though very obviously pre WWII period. I really speak as regards to the 21st century, where in the UK and here in Belfast, suits and "proper dress" seem to have totally disappeared in all areas, the exceptions being business and formal functions. ...

Double breasted suits are less adaptable to modern use eg. car travel and tend to be ideal in winter or when a certain amount of gravitas and maturity needs to displayed / business / funerals and so forth.
