Re: Casual, not denim

gcg, have a look at some of the outfits that the young gents at the Armoury put together:

...for my money they succeed in making 'well dressed' look youthful, cool and never stuffy.

Re: 1950

vancehn, if that's the waistband of the trousers, then you're proposing that the jacket -which has it's own waistband - is neatly tucked into those trousers ? (google WW2 British battledress jacket to see how thick the waistband of that jacket is). also, where are the belt loops or brace buttons of ...

Re: 1950

Russell, the light suit looks like grey flannel with subtle off-white chalk-stripes (common enough). the lady and boy are probably sporting some sort of subtle window-pane. i'm afraid i don't see any stripes in the image that appear to be 'noise'... the only noise is film grain. i still insist the g...

Re: 1950

Russell, mix n match odd trousers / old suit trousers with sports jackets or short military jackets would have been commonplace in Britain in the post war years. not sure why you think it unlikely that anyone would be wearing pin/chalk stripes on a day like that. there's one guy (with leather strap ...

Re: 1950

Frederic and Russell,

the waistband belongs to the jacket not the trousers, and the trousers are chalk-striped suit trousers (civvies), not battle dress. :D

Re: Vintage shoes. Not your cup of tea?

my own take is that if the previous owner's foot imprint is noticeable in the inner leather, then i wouldn't wear them.
if they're deadstock or have only been worn once or twice then no problem.

Re: Vintage shoes. Not your cup of tea?

there is a lot more interest in vintage shoes on the Fedora Lounge, where there are whole threads dedicated to them.
this forum being all about bespoke, or high end RTW, you're unlikely to drum up much enthusiasm.

Re: name this weave ?

hectorm, you're right they're vintage and certainly not feminine, but i wish i did know more about this weave and was able to surprise you with the answer. i'm happy to accept bouclé, even with it's rather feminine overtones, unless anyone else can offer an alternative. here's the original so...

Re: Russian Twill?

not suitable for summer, but Ardalanish (Isle of Mull) weavers have done a twill / Russian twill mix fabric before.
you can clearly see the rows of 'Russian twill' between the regular twill:

i also don't think that the shoulders on that suit would have a strong rope as in the De Niro example. they might have more fullness than the first suits i posted above, but more likely would resemble this...

Re: How would I achieve this style (picture inside)

Roberto, i suspect that what you're being drawn to most in that photo is the very slim arm and neat narrow shoulder. the shoulder would have very little or no padding; your shoulder goes into the top part of the sleeve to fill it out, something that most tailors today would swear is 'incorrect'. as ...
