Re: Source for Heavy Donegal Overcoatings?

Magee wouldn't sell overcoating to me before, Kevin and Howlin have handwoven overcoatings available for a brief period in October before it is made into their RTW. Studio Donegal also have handwoven in a double-width and indeed provided the cloth for Benedict Cumberbatch's overcoat in Sherlock.

Re: Apparel Arts and Esquire Images

Because of the lobbying of Disney whose copyright on Mickey Mouse was due to expire the length of protection has been extended to 95 years from publication providing proper renewals are filed. Isn't it famously the example in US law of how each time Mickey Mouse has reached the end of his tether th...

Re: Moustaches

This probably seems a little silly, but I happen to be in the midst of growing out my moustache. From my limited knowledge (purely gained from growing it for the past few weeks), it seems I need to trim the bottom part, just above the lips, so that there is a space between the hair and my lips. But...

I have bought one or two things there and agree that the size range is good. It's all a trifle eccentric though, as if aimed at selling things to people who don't really need what they buy. As for reasonable prices - chinos for £360? I mean, I like them quite a lot but..... Good grief I could get t...

I've never seen anybody folding their coat this way since I moved to England. To that inexperienced boy my father also explained that the lining protects the cloth from picking up dirt and dust when you carry the jacket on your arm on a very hot day or when you leave it in the car. Ah, memories... ...

Moreover, it will likely be the last suit that I commission. Dear Rodes, does one need to work for wearing a suit? - I like the story Flusser is telling in one of his books, about Basil Zaharoff ordering calling Lobb from his deathbed to order a pair of new shoes on a new last. My advice wo...

In any case, thank you cathach for the tip on pattern woven linen, which is common for upholstery but very rare for men´s garments. I´ll have to check that out sometime. Not at all, their entire range is dedicated to mens' shirting though not suitings. If you're in Roma TeCa Tessuti is worth a look...

Do share the name and exact location of the place, please  . Not at all, it is Trattoria Avellinese da Peppino, Via Silvio Spaventa 25 or thereabouts. To quote the Merchant 'But thou, thou meagre lead,. Which rather threaten'st than dost promise aught,' is what you want to go for in Naples. W...

... If there's any kind of rule, it must be to just watch where the locals go for their lunch breaks and steer clear of the tourist trail! ... So true. And busy is not a reliable indicator of a great meal. I had a great meal in Trastevere, Rome where only four tables were occupied: a tourist, a par...

Re: Article by Alden: The first serious step in bespoke

I would also note that e-marketing skills are now a commodity, while expert tailoring and shirtmaking skills, as Michael often reminds us, are very scarce and in some quarters endangered. Lifetimes being limited as they are, I'd rather see artisans spending their remaining hours practicing their ca...

Re: Extra Virgin Suicide

My love for the liquid gold started when I lived in Spain. The problem with the pricing of oil is the massive intervention of the EU common agricultural policy that distorts the market (usually benefiting the large agro-industrial corps, at the expense of the little guy). The consumers are now used...

Where did you get the linen socks? They're devilish hard to find.

I love the suit they have made for me, but strange ol' me have not worn it much, because this waistband bothers me so much. Actually, it has refrain me from ordering from them over the phone because I don't want this to reoccur on a new commission. No bother pal. If you can't visit them but have a ...

Thanks JS Groot, but I am talking about it curling horizontally, like curling towards my toes if that makes sense. Naturally, you will think it's a big belly, but I just think the fabric is too soft or something. I am very curious as to whether this is common, or whether there is a simple solution....

Re: Vintage 'twist worsted'

This cloth is no younger than 30 years old, quite possibly older. It is interesting that it may be Irish. Do you know whether the Irish worsted was well thought of? I have an overcoat in an Irish-made worsted my father bought in 1968, that I wear often. No complaints from me, I doubt I'll look as g...
