Re: Respect for The Craftsmen...

Sorry, it if it matters ENOUGH to the client, and there is no doubt about the detail noted at the time of the commission, then the tailor should be gracious enough to accept they had made an error, even if their error fits beautifully, and offer a solution. . Resect for the craftsman, should in no ...

Respect for The Craftsmen...

Anyway we have since gotten onto a discussion about how to interact with craftsmen. And for over a decade now, I have written that this is a subject of prime importance. Its vastly more important than any possible nit or nat a nitpicker can pick. Cheers In rereading the above quote from Michael, I ...

Re: Trousers

Although I'm sure he knows. I am not at all sure of this Frank. Every tailor I have ever known knew to ask which side I dressed and made the appropriate adjustments to the pattern. But here we have young clients who are stunned by the concept who have clearly never been asked. And they are going to...

Yeah I am quoting myself. And I am doing it because it occurred to me to double down on this point.

Re: Grande Pignolo

People these days have no idea what true Benchmade is. BenchTailors are not around. 55 hours on one coat is unheard of. We sometime conflate bespoke and bench made; they are kissing cousins but not fungible terms. A true bench made suit is made by a master tailor; defined in the strictest sense as ...

Re: Grande Pignolo

Guys, your tailor knows his job better than you ever will. You have nothing to convey, or expect, inspire or challenge. He or she has done this job for decades, sometimes generations, and sometimes multiple generations. So just trust your tailor. But really trust them. Because trust is the greatest...

Re: Jack Taylor of Beverly Hills

I just spoke with Jack's care taker; to paraphrase Mark Twain, The reports of his death have been greatly exaggerated. Jack is 100 years old, his wife is 95. Other then the dementia, he is healthy as a 100 year old man can be.

Re: Jack Taylor of Beverly Hills

I knew Jack Taylor and his wife Bonnie; wonderful people. He became a little crotchety in his golden years; but he was always full of wonderful stories. I had 5 suites made by him. Jack was not a tailor, but his knowledge would rival that of any bench tailor. He had the “eye” of a tailor,(among othe...

Re: I wonder about SR quality

Would you be willing to share the name? Gasbarri? Trabalza? Centofanti? Couch, The tailor was Giacomo Trabalza. He was a wonderful man, I always told him I came to him for his stories, and got a suit to remember it by. Every suit that I have from him, has a wonderful story to go along with it. Rega...

Re: I wonder about SR quality

I sometimes find the acceptance of quality issues on SR puzzling and also how much the client is supposed to work with the cutter, seeking to get him to understand his requirements. I think perhaps perspective has been lost. . I would concur. Why do we accept quality issues? I remember when I walke...
