Re: Bespoke from Warsaw, Poland

Dear Gentlemen, After your encouragement I decided to start blogging in English about Polish bespoke scene, elegance and style from a perspective of a culture anthropologist and also hobbyist. I am starting with a project "DB suit with 3 patch pockets" to be made by Piotr KamiƄski, tailor from Warsa...

cultural meaning of a flannel suit

I am wondering what is the cultural significance behind a flannel suit? Why in the past they were so popular? Term man in a gray flannel suit was very popular in USA in 50's and 60's and refereed to a faceless, loyal and conservative businessman who spends his all life at work in a large corporation...

Re: Conservative Custom Clothing Role Models

One of the sayings about dressing thrown around is "if you saw a man walking down the street wearing a dark suit, white shirt, dark tie and white handkerchief, that was cut in ways that complemented him, you'd say he's well dressed. Even though he is wearing 2 colors, he looks better than the guy tr...

Re: Bespoke from Warsaw, Poland

Costi, Indeed I like fine living. It must be in the eyes :) According to my tailor I was one of the most demanding customers he could remember. But he also concluded that he had enjoyed the job because it had offered him great craftsman satisfaction and new experience (at his age!). He rarely works ...

Bespoke from Warsaw, Poland

Dear Gentlemen, I have been an avid reader of your forum since last summer. I ventured into fascinating world of male elegance and style from Apparel Arts and clearly have become a hobbyist. As a short bio: I lived in Dublin, Ireland from 2007 till 2010 and at the end of the year I moved back to War...

Backstiched lapels and functional leather buttons

Hello,

My two questions:

a) Do you backstitch your lapels on a tweed jacket? Is backstitching recommended on such a jacket?
b) Do you have functional cuff buttons when using leather ones with a shank?

Thanks

Re: Cuffed Sleeve on Sports Jacket

Gents, Thanks for answers. I still have not decided whether to have a laid-on cuff or a formed one. There seems to be a consensus that deeper cuff is better. 3 inches has been suggested. People tend to agree that it is better to have turn-ups on trousers with turn-backs on jacket. Secondly this styl...

Cuffed Sleeve on Sports Jacket

Hello, I have just commissioned a light green with colour flecks Donegal Tweed jacket with dark brown Gabardine trousers at my tailor in Warsaw, Poland. It will have slanting pockets with flaps, two vents, 3 buttons, drape cut (lounge version), broad shoulders, notched lapel, cuffed sleeve. Trousers...

Re: Has anyone seen Boardwalk Empire?

Love the suits and patterns from that show.

One thing I don't get it. In Boardwalk last button of a waistcoat (vest) is always buttoned. We all know that it should be unbuttoned.

Is it a mistake or back in the day in 1920 in USA the last button on the waistcoat was buttoned?
