Re: Dinner Suit

I think mid-night blue is not a bad option. The Duke of Windsor popularised the DB mid-night blue which is considered blacker than black and thats how I bespoke my Windsor style DJ with Henry Poole. But I agree black is the most formal.

Re: Odd Waistcoat

Thank you Salsatron and rodes,

Thank you very much for your advice! Does any members have any helpful photos on how odd waistcoats could compliment the style?

Odd Waistcoat

Dear Fellow members of LL, I have in the past observed many stylish gentlemen wearing elegant odd waistcoats with their suits or even sport jackets. I have always been curious to adopt the style but does any member have any suggestion on the how to wear them and whether there are any rules with odd ...

Re: My first bespoke Dinner Jacket

Thank you Mr. Alden and other fellow members, I understand that the ventless model is the most proper for DJ but would side vents make the jacket look better when seated? It may also seems uncomfortable if you can't reach your hands into your pockets (even if you do not have anything in them). As fo...

My first bespoke Dinner Jacket

Dear fellow members, I have recently ventured into the commissioning my first bespoke Dinner Jacket with Henry Poole. I have made a choice of a DB, shawl lapel, mid-night blue DJ with Smith's mohair mixed fabric. I have always subconsciously prefer DB to SB and since I had peak lapel MTM DJ in the p...

Re: Harrisons' Multi Millionaire, any experience or thoughts

Thanks Michael! I hope we can see this Everest Cashmere soon! And thanks guys for these valuable advices, it is a shame that these precious fabrics are over domesticated. I wish to have a cashmere overcoat that could be passed down to my son and to my grandson. Something valuable and durable.

Harrisons' Multi Millionaire, any experience or thoughts?

I have recently been browsing on Harrisons' website and have noticed their Multi-Millionaire line which is a pure cashmere and vicuña blend. I then asked for a swatch sample to be sent to me. The cloths seems to be in a more conservative design but very soft and smooth when handled. Although as the ...

Thanks a lot! So no one owns a Savoir Bed? Would anyone recommend any other brand?

Re: Ralph Lauren Purple Label White tie and Black tie

It's so disappointing to see such an icon of classic menswear reduce himself to the level of a discount tuxedo retailer. Midnight Blue. I hear you. Ford, Lauren, they both got their inspirations from Savile Row and their classic style and they turn their backs against them as soon as they became su...

Re: Bespoke Overcoat

Thank you Simon. That was very detailed. I have definitely learned a lot. As I am new to this forum, will someone educate me on different grades/weight of cashmere or names of mill houses that provide quality cashmere? Perhaps Mr. Alden could tell me more about Everest Cashmere? So does it mean, the...

The Ultimate Mattress

Since we all spent 1/3 of our lives in bed, I gathered it might be worth to invest in a quality bed. I have recently came across Hästens of Sweden and Savoir Beds of London, both bespoke, hand made with multiple layers of pure Egyptian cottons, horse hair and springs. Both very pricey of course. I w...

Re: Bespoke Overcoat

On the topic of bespoke overcoat, I am currently planning on two bespoke overcoat projects, both Chesterfields, one Navy DB and another Camel SB. If I were to go for the "Ultimate" coat and decide to use pure cashmere or vicuña would anyone advise against it? What would the durability be like? I und...

Re: The ideal smoking jacket

I would think the modern usage of a smoking jacket should be wider than serving as a common dressing gown to compliment your wife. Strolling in your estate (or flat in most cases) in a vicuna blend dressing gown might be even too grand for a Duke. I would very much doubt the Duke of Windsor wore his...

Re: The ideal smoking jacket

Dear Young Lawyer, I am in fact a barrister as well. A pleasure to meet you. I have always been searching for an ideal smoking jacket. While I agree with Mr. Alden and I do like the Duke's smoking jacket(especially his bow tie in the black and white photo, is there a place were I can find them?), I ...
