Re: battistoni
Actually quite curious about Battistoni or any other Roman shirtmaker endorsements too. Have heard Jaja Camiceria is quite good but otherwise only come across Neopolitan shirtmakers that have a base in Rome.

Re: Morning Suit - advice sought please
KC wears his black silk piped jacket with a matching black silk piped waistcoat for funerals so think fair to say do whatever you prefer re: piping.

Re: Morning Suit - advice sought please
For what its worth - The King’s more formal morning wear set up (the one he wore for his wedding to the Queen) features a black tailcoat with a plain - not herringbone - weave and black silk piping. I think it looks very good especially when he wears a shirt with a light coloured body (always with a...

Re: Michael Browne
Dear Bwooster, Michael is a wonderful human being, I enjoyed working with him so much. My fittings used to sometime take 4 hrs as we talked so much. I will say a word of caution as I actually did not end up enjoying the two suits I have from him. One I don’t wear at all as it has a huge collar gap ...

Re: Michael Browne
Thank you for the advice, I will certainly look out for that on my first fit (its usually the thing I look for first as the only time I have had an issue with collar gap was early bespoke days at Huntsman about 20 yrs ago). I use Caraceni (Rome) otherwise and have a similar rapport as you do with St...

Re: Michael Browne
Went for my first meet with Michael last week, ordered a DJ from him. Having been to my fair share of tailors in UK and Italy at this stage, from small off-the-beaten-track artisans to the big names, I must say I have never sat for 2 hrs geeking out over tailoring minutiae before, he obviously has g...

Re: Shoe care in London
I’ve found Steve who works out of the Gaziano shop to be very good. Resoled a couple pairs of old Fosters for me, added flush taps etc. Mentioned he could relast and change the heels to pitched ones too which I didn’t need but certainly sounds beyond the scope of most other repair spots I’ve come ac...

Re: North of Italy: Milan, Turin, Genoa
Caffè Mulassano on Piazza Castello in Turin is my go-to for coffee, panini, and people watching. Beautiful interiors.

Re: The ultimate polo coat
Would consider perhaps nixing the breast pocket on this set up too, my tailor suggested going without on my polo coat and really find it looks a lot less crowded/more elegant.

Re: Morning Suit - advice sought please
Went for the classic grey linen DB waistcoat with large lapels and 6 grey MoP buttons that are closely spaced together and are stacked in a V shape vs horizontally (hope that makes sense/A&S style), black plain weave coat with piping (mohair vs silk as not as stiff/shiny) and cashmere striped trouse...

Re: Shoe care in London
Stephen in the lobby of the Hilton on Park Lane has done some superb work on a few pairs of my shoes, managed to bring back both a leather and a suede pair of old EGs from brink of death to like new.

Re: Birdseye
Michael as always I’d much rather not risk it and get a LL cloth, not to mention the mix of blues used in the DD nailhead would be exactly what I’d hope for in a birdseye. Just wondering, would a similar navy birdseye be possible in the Mare quality as well? From how you’ve described Mare, that woul...

Re: Birdseye
Brilliant, thank you, Leonard. Couldn’t ask for a more informed rec. Have asked Kemp & Hewitt and your Escorial rec led me a 11 oz birdseye one from Standeven so hope will have some swatches to compare soon.

Birdseye
For the first time in ages, it seems I may have to search for a fabric beyond the Cloth Club’s offerings as am very keen on getting a navy birdseye suit made up. Would any members have a good rec?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Style Icons in Films - Please share some of your favorites.
Walter Matthau’s wardrobe in A New Leaf inspired me to resuscitate this thread. His suits are extraordinarily well cut, his apartment extremely tasteful (spotted both a Philip Guston and Jules Olitski on his walls), and the film manages to tick a lot of other boxes too: hysterical and clever writing...
