Re: Crisis on Savile Row: can British tailoring survive the impact of Covid-19?
I've talked about it with a few tailors, and other than a "more comfortable jacket", a Teba or a smoking gown, I haven't seen concepts that would truly make me feel "comfortable and smart" while sitting in endless zoom meetings. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Actually that's what the waist...

Re: If you had to start over again, where would you begin and which tailor would you pick?
And if that means I'll be wearing a suit and tie when all around me are in shorts and t-shirts, so be it. And why would I care what such people might think of me? When those people are between 20 and 30 and they're your friends or colleagues, I can see your point, Hristo. Too formal clothing might ...

Re: Bespoke Overcoat
You might have a look at Fox Brothers' heavy overcoating, e.g. this 34 oz. midnight-navy. Not a herringbone, but a lot of texture, lovely for a winter coat: https://www.themerchantfox.co.uk/collections/coating/products/fox-military-issue-navy Hainsworth produces some heavy fabrics containing nylon, ...

Re: Alden’s 40
I think that is probably the reality for the average professional Brit these days, unless they are in law or banking. I had never given that a thought until a lawyer in my home town hold a speech and gave a slide show about his trip to Cuba in 1992 something. Cubans would dress up a lot and change ...

Shame I can't speak Slovak, really ... They'll be happy to serve you in English too  None of the blogger pimps have written about him yet. Look at those waders. They are not in Fashion. No one is wearing them in Men's Vogue. And Bratislava? You have to be kidding, who would ever go there? Eas...

Re: Tailored Stories: An Oral History of Savile Row
Also, I want to say again , all the old world handwork and style is wasted if the pattern does not work. I would rather have a well fitted ,well balanced MTM than an off balance, I'll fitting coat with a hiking front from SR or off SR. The pictures from instagram are beautiful and show the craft, b...

Re: Trousers
But give us the name of that Slovakian trouser maker please. That is a trouser! I might slim it down a nanometer but it looks like solid gold to me. I know you guys like clothes that look like you've slept in them for weeks, but that taut line is just great. It is Maximilian Mucska in Bratisl...

Re: Tailored Stories: An Oral History of Savile Row
I'm with davidhuh in this matter. I started with a small tailor who closed his shop when he was 80. I tried several options in London (not SR). I remember collecting a finished jacket after 2 fittings. Its sleeves were sewn so tight that I could hardly lift my arms up. According to the cutter, it wa...

Beautiful pieces indeed, thanks for sharing  Watching The Crown season 2 they have actually incorporated this into Prince Philip’s (portrayed by Matt Smith) trousers on the show. That’s a remarkable attention to detail on their part (costumes made by Timothy Everest). Tim Everest is a big film...

Re: Trousers
Alden, Frank, thank you for your feedback, it's much appreciated  Franz, those trousers would be better without pleats. If you want them tapered like that the line would be much better without pleats. Thank you. I actually have a tapered pair without pleats made by the same tailor. However, I ...

Watching those videos made me think of another legendary trip to English tailors  A great scene that I had not seen before, thank you. ...for many of us the waist measure fluctuates, for example, after the New Years festivities. How many of you have made the New Years resolution to get your pleats closing again? And yes, Alden you are right about an ideal fit for Pussy Galore  Forgive me Hristo, david, couch, Frank et ...
