Overcoat closeure
Gentlemen, I am having an overcoat made in a dark blue cloth. I favour a fly front closure and possibly a nod towards a vintage style. In some images the (what I shall call) coat placket appears to end half way down the front of the coat just below the bottom button. In other pictures it runs the fu...

Suitcase
Gentleman, What company would you recommend please for an old style suitcase ? Possibly good quality leather with metal protected corners, leather retaining straps on the outside. Generally as per the 40's type design but made from modern materials. Many thanks, Snapper

Silk jacket
Yesterday I saw a lovely jacket in a tailor’s window marked down to half price and described as a ‘’Silk Jacket ‘‘ But I wondered how robust that might be, how well would it hold its shape and would it wear for any length of time. I guess it might be combined with another cloth type but what would b...

I too use Dan, Richard and Dave and find them to be ideal. All of them are always helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. I look forward to seeing them again when lockdown is over. They are a great crew.

DB vents
In old films, upto about mid 20th Century, all double breasted jackets were ventless. Their wearers seem to be comfortable without vents for access to trouser pockets. They don't appear to suffer any restrictions of movement when sitting, dancing etc. Ventless gives a 'cleaner' uninterupted silhouet...

Re: Moth damage.
Melcombe the Invisible Mending Company did a great job for me on a tweed overcoat a year ago and at an acceptable price. I took a Harris Tweed jacket in to them two days ago and they quoted £144 for a 12mm diameter hole. So I would say that if your tailor does not make a new sleeve then the I. Mend ...
