For the sake of objectivity, may I ask if any members of this forum have commissioned bespoke or MTM garments from John Cutler. If so , it may be helpful for them to post their respective views. bluscuro I have had many bespoke suits and jackets form John, and commision a a new item when the previo...

l'd be very wary of getting a suit made by John Cutler. The results i've seen on clients haven't been good. He is basically a designer....other people make his clothes. He is not highly regarded by people in the know (well not as much as his families past tailoring reputation). l haven't used John ...

The only other store in Sydney that I know stocks Thurston braces is Henry Bucks in O'Connell St, but their range is very limited . When I last looked there were only clip-on braces. You might try to enquire on AAAC. Bracemaker (Thurston) is a participant and would know if there were other stockists...

jagdriver, I do not believe that MTM is neccesarily a waste of money, just that in my case the results never really met my expectations in terms of fit. When I was buying the Zegna and Brioni MTM I had not the benefit of fora such as this, and I swallowed the salesmen's line on what constituted good...

I would second uppercase's advice, having wasted a good deal of money on Zegna and Brioni MTM. Henry Poole visits Hamburg several times a year. The schedule of visits is posted on their website.

There is a directory of major Italian textile manufacturers here, but nothing very close to "Tapas/Tarpas".

rjman, I am also having a shirt made by Charvet in a zephyr cotton. Do you know if zephyr is a generic term (like voile) or is it the Acorn fabric of the same name? I had a look at the Acorn swatch card today, and their zephyr seems similar to the Charvet fabric, but I am relying on my memory.

Harrisons' website has contact addresses. They responded to me within a few days when I sought their assistance a few months ago. Their sister brand, LBD, has a good book of suit linings.

There are some cotton and cotton/silk suitings (which, if I remember correctly, are gabardines) in the Harrison's of Edinburgh 'Mersolair' range.

SouthPender, the cloth my trousers were made from is the Dormeuil Flannel 85004 and I guess it would be an 11 or 12 oz. The fabric number on Hwa Seng's site is their own, but I would think that my fabric is closest to their number 3127. I am afraid that I have been unable to find pictures of the fab...

I have a pair of odd trousers made from the Dormeuil flannel in a charcoal grey. I am very happy with the cloth, which is a worsted flannel. They are ideal for winter in Sydney.

I guess it's not referred to that in Austria, but a popular processed wool fabric in England and North America is referred to as melton . It looks and feels much like the way you've described loden, and I was wondering whether it is basically the same thing or another kind of unwoven compressed woo...
