Re: Apparel Arts and Esquire Images

From Fox Brothers' Archives the splendid series of grey flannels ,woven in 1920's, I was referring to in my previous post: http://www.themerchantfox.co.uk/35/mr-foxs-journal/post/458/more-than-one-grey . Angelo These look great. Good on Fox. My favorites are the second from the top and the second f...

Re: first journey into bespoke

All excellent advice. I would echo the need to develop patience when building a bespoke wardrobe (as hard as that seems sometimes!). I've had excellent experiences with Steed (a smaller firm) and A+S (a heavyweight), and continue to use both.

Re: John Hitchcock to retire from A&S

I have an overcoat coming soon (waiting for email confirm any day now), and I'll be happy to report back here once it arrives. At the fitting, Mr. Hall (who I had met before) was confidently, pleasantly helpful and patient in explaining how he imagined making adjustments and how he saw the finished...

Re: William…?

My two cents: if I were going to get a single-buckle shoe from JL, I'd likely go with the Redmire in claret. But I tend to like my shoes simple.

And, might I add that I wholly support holiday gifts from oneself to oneself!

Re: Worsted odd jacket

I did, indeed, go with patch pockets on both the suit and the jacket. They look great on both.

Re: Worsted odd jacket

Maybe I should give linen some more thought. Any idea where to find any of the good stuff? ;) http://www.thelondonlounge.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10839&start=0 The London Lounge linen is fantastic stuff. I have a jacket in the Siena and a suit in the RAF blue. I absolutely love them both and w...

Re: The overcoat conundrum.

I love the Polo coat in the video, Michael. What are your thoughts on turn-back cuffs on overcoats? I'm currently thinking about issues related to the questions raised by Melcombe, and I'm wondering if including cuffs on my future coat would help make it more versatile, for wear with suits or just w...

Re: A well aged cigar

I completely forgot that I had posted about humidors and favorite cigars. Thanks, Michael, for the humidor recommendation. The Elie Bleu seems lovely and, most importantly, idiotproof. I will have to take a look at one in person next time I am in Paris. Also, what is the Vegas Robaina cigar in the p...

Re: A well aged cigar

Do any LL members have any other personal favorite cigars? I'm quite partial to the Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Especial, but I'm curious about other recommendations. I'd like to invest in a humidor in the future, but I'd like to get one that I don't need to tinker with too much or that will require m...

Re: Everest Cashmere Overcoat Fitting

Aha! Thanks, Frank, because the sleeve length was one of the first things I noticed. I'll be going in for my first bespoke overcoat next year and now I know!

Heck, I might even bring in this picture for reference because it looks so nice.

Re: First bespoke: What fabric for navy blazer?

Let me toss in another vote for Smith's Botany book. I have a suit in the lighter-than-navy hopsack and it's my favorite. I'd wear it every day if I could. I don't know the number of the cloth, but it's easily found while browsing through the book.

Re: reasonably priced soft tailored suit

Don't think Browne is that good. They seem to cut from a house block (not that that in itself is a problem if the coats are well fitted) and from what I've been seeing, the fit is terrible. They made a couple of suits for me and I'd not describe the fit as terrible. They don't take as many measurem...

Re: Turn ups on DB Suits?

For another data point, I recently decided to order a DB suit, and I was encouraged by my tailor to add turn-ups to the trousers. That was fine with me, and I was told they can always be taken out later if I end up having second thoughts (which I doubt I will).

Re: Moonbeam Double Breasted

hectorm, To the first of your points: I have a jacket in the Moonbeam cloth, and while I like it very much I don't think anyone would take it for a "real" tweed. It's a very urbane cloth with tweed-like patterning, but its softness makes me fear for its durability far, far more than I would for the ...
