Re: Ballantyne
Sorry to squeeze this in but why is it that with the great deal of emphasis that is generally put on a higher waist line, longer bodied sweaters are accepted? Lockie, Smedley, Shetlands, it seems to go for most of them.

Re: Waistcoats. The Long View.
One other RTW option for a short vest:

I have no experience with this maker myself and the armhole seems overly large, but they do seem very 'practical'.

You keep surprising me Federico. The suit looks great! What is it like wearing such a design in these times?

Re: Blue Suit
Ultimately the reason I choose grey over blue is not that I find it easier to wear, but that I feel less comfortable in blue. Most blues I know I find too 'homogenous'. It's just a personal preference. Other than that, a blue suit is probably just as versatile as a grey one, if you consider that blu...

Re: The Minimal Necktie Wardrobe
What a great looking suit. Surely there are many possibilities for a tie with blue suits and jackets (probably more than with charcoal). Personally I like orange and muted yellow with navy and darker blues, as well as light grey or b/w houndstooth.

Re: The Minimal Necktie Wardrobe
What I like about the unlined necktie is the thin knot and the way multiple small pleats instead of a 'dimple' arise. This much more than its airiness.

Re: The Minimal Necktie Wardrobe
Hi Federico, I love wearing ties as well and do so on work days and to the occasional wedding. My wardrobe is minimal out of necessity and the method I use for installing diversity in it is by ordering solid (mostly grey) suits, then combining these with coloured or patterned shirts and ties (mostly...

Re: Perfumes
I treated myself to a bottle of lavender water by D.R. Harris recently. For those looking for something refreshing for the summer days, I recommend it highly. I splash it on every time I leave the house (I even put some on my pillow case before going to sleep).

Re: Chinos with non-squeeze bottom ends
Cordings chinos are pretty decent too. The leg opening is far from trim on me and the cotton is nice and sturdy. The rise could be a little higher but is not as low as current fashion wants it.

Re: New Cleverley balmorals
Seeing this beautiful pair (I love the design) I am not readily inclined to criticise. But if I had to I would have to look real hard and say that there seems to be more accent on the shoe’s breadth than necessary. The first picture could be deceiving me but the nose seems pinched at the point of th...

Re: Bespoke neckties - how wide, and why?
Hi Bird, I am of similar bodily proportions as you and I have ordered many ties from David Hober. All of them are 7.5 cm or 8 cm at the widest point. None of them I consider 'skinny'. In the end it all comes down to a personal interpretation of what a well proportioned image is and an understanding ...

Re: Worsted odd jacket
The Mersolair 26701, 02, 03 and 04 are all pinstripes and seem to be there still on the Harrison´s book. Am I missing something? All I can say is that the book I was given did not contain pinstripes. I was told it came in just a few days ago as a replacement. The older version was still laying arou...

Re: Worsted odd jacket
For those interested, the Mersolair book has been renewed somewhat. No more pinstripes and soft twills and many lighter weight mohair blends. The whole thing seems a bit more refined than before, but maybe my memory of it is not completely right. Some very nice herringbone's have been added.

Re: Worsted odd jacket
I did, indeed, go with patch pockets on both the suit and the jacket. They look great on both. I can (almost) see that! A linen suit really is something chique. I remember liking the designs in the Mersolair book but I can't remember the hand. I will certainly check it out. Dear T.K. The Mersolair ...
