Re: Perfumes

The most gentlemanly scent from Guerlain is Mouchoir de Monsieur.

I haven't been around for an absolute age, so my apologies for a late reply to this thread. I would recommend Creed's Ambre Cannelle or even their Acier Aluminium. I wear them both and they work wonderfully in the cooler weather. At least if you wear either of these, you can stay faithful to the Hou...

Couch, the H&R geneology chart is extremely accurate. I can't really comment on the similarity between Puig's Vetiver and Guerlain's Vetiver because it's such a long time since I smelled the Puig. I seem to recall that it is a very classic dry vetiver scent whereas the Guerlain one has quite distinc...

jean Claude Ellena is his name. He is also the in-house perfumer for Hermes, he created their latest scent Terre d'Hermes.

My favourite of the Malle repertoir is Musc Ravageur.

Mr Larsen, did you manage to visit Aedes?

Mr Larson, Aedes on Christopher Street stocks the Creed line.

If you would like to carry on the Cary Grant connection, you should try Creed's Selection Verte which was created specially for Mr Grant. It's not cheap though!

Le Dandy is a wonderful scent, ideal for Spring/Summer. It has notes of cognac and tobacco.......what more could a gentleman want?

Here is a link to some reviews............

Thank you Gents for your replies. I actually found that because my wrists are quite slim, I can put them in first and then put on the shirt. That was after I had just about mastered the art of inserting them whilst wearing the shirt.

Parishow, we have recently had a discussion about when and where to wear perfumes on my 'home board'. I am one of the 'perfumistas' who always wears whatever scent, whenever. Incroyable, I seem tom recall that a perfume company in France, called Histoire des Parfums (I think), brought out a whole li...

Some excellent responses from true professionals.

By the way Mr Wakefield, I thought that I was the only Yorkshireman on here.

Parishow, it is indeed a remarkable fragrance.. I was going to post a link to it directly, but the link appeared ridiculously long after I posted it. Here is a link to just the shop, click on the pictures of perfume bottles, then click on Parfum d'Empire, next click on Eau de Gloire. http://www.less...

Yes, Sillage is the correct term for the trail of perfume that one leaves in one's wake. Smoking does actually dampen down a chemical that works with the nose's olfactory receptors. In non smokers, the perfume that one smells, appears to fade away quicker, you know the effect where one applies perfu...

BirdofSydney, I agree that the late Annick Goutal made magnificent scents, the only problem with most of them is the longevity. I find that the more recent Nuits d'Hadrien has much more longevity but it isn't as 'sparkling'.

My favourite Goutal of all time is Sables.

I will try to scan them when I get my scanner sorted out. I don't have a digital camera but somebody told me that they would be possible to scan them.

On a side note, I have read that after 2 decades, Prince Charles has removed their Royal Warrant for making his bespoke suits. Apparently he is buying RTW from Turnbull and Asser now.
