I just received my dress suit (white tie) back from a post-summer storage steaming,
and am prepping for opening night (9/24) at the Met. Opera.

Damn the four-in-hands as formalwear, full speed ahead!!

When people discuss the desire for high armholes and drape, they are often hankering for freedom of movement such as these men required in their professional lives. Toscanini needed much the same facility, and got it. Not from the most famous source, however-- I've read that Scholte tossed him out ...

Said it on AA, and I'll say it here. The Rubinacci coat is going to be splendid. I can already tell they have the "bones" of it dead right. Just seeing this for the first time, are you ever right. It's making me think that a trip to Naples is going to be more than about pizza research. For my money...

"Budd", and do give a "cheers" to A. Rowley there.

The man is unmatched when it comes to formalwear--and a
true wit, as well.

Con. That'd be fun--pm me when the schedule comes out so we coordinate our matinee selections (I wear a dinner suit to evening perfs) . I am partial to the bel canto, btw! And, I'd gladly fetch you something--especially from the bar--for us to toast our fraternity in the "cloth"! Best, SC Then we s...

As a bit of a dodge, but not too much compromise on what I like, I've thought that getting a DB suit in a very dark grey herringbone (no pocket flaps or vents) would be a useful entry into this rig. Add supplementary striped trousers and a proper shirt, and we're ready to go. No real sacrifice of u...

Since, "the hell with it", seems to have (again) made up my mind for me,
Manton (others):
where to go for the stroller commission? I am a patron of Caraceni (R) and A&S.

Another shop on the 'Row, perhaps?

Thanks,
SC

"The hell with it" often serves as ample license for certain of my
bespoke plunges; though this one would be a doozy!

Thanks, M.

Yachtie:

If I may be so forward--as I am on the fence about laying out
some GBP or EUR.--for a stroller rig: where do you intend to
wear such finery?

I'm thinking Met Opera matinees, but after that, I'm coming up dray.

Manton, per piacere, too, your ideas.
Best,

Query:
It appears that the bloke on the right (in the MS) is sporting a
striped shirt with a (likely detachable) white collar.

Does a MS or stroller get up take this, and is it as formal/correct as
solid white?

Fabulous choices,

Do stop in at Budd in Picc. arcade. Chatting up
Mr. Rowley is a treat I look forward to during my
annual visit to London. He (along with Manton) is the
last word on formalwear and has an un-matched wit.

I'm rooting for the USD v. the GBP for your time there!
Cheers,
SC
