Re: when to wear a suit?
A few quick comments: -> I personally veer towards what Andy and Daviduh have said: I wear clothes that I enjoy. Since they are, IMO, objectively not offensive nor impractical, I really don't see how it' anyone else's business> My experience of this is quite positive. -> At the same time, I complete...

Re: Wool/Silk/Linen fabrics
This is a actually very useful thread. I suspected this sort of mix might have... mixed results but it's good to hear from actual experience.

Re: Are the days of tailored clothing numbered?
Interesting post. I think that in terms of straightforward social analysis, the days of tailored clothing being necessary or commonplace are clearly numbered, unless the trend is (improbably) sharply inverted, somehow. At the same time, there is considerable pluralism in lifestyle so I would guess t...

Re: Morning Suit - advice sought please
Lots of hardly worn morning coats available from people like Savvy Row, if the budget is tight, BTW.
On the waistcoat, I'm surprised no one mentioned the compromise between garish ones and rather funereal black (at a wedding...).
Something in buff or light blue is festive but not garish.

Re: Dress the dinner table
Definitely tablecloth, by a country mile. In a formal setting, something with texture but otherwise white (or mostly white) will show off the beautiful crockery, glasses, flowers, etc. You can get fantastic table setting ideas on the net and I've found that guests *really* appreciate a well-laid-out...

Re: Lucius Beebe in White Tie
I think that from the late 1930s to the 1950s, when (some) people wore evening dress (black or white tie) very often, some folks just gave up on stiff collars or wore them rarely for reasons of comfort. In black tie, while well into the 1920s wing and other high collars were more common, by the 30 i...

Re: The waistcoat conundrum.
I have found waistcoats to be quite wearable, in a suit.
As Concordia said, the outfit can look v. nice with the jacket open and the waistcoat showing fully. If for any reason you take yourt jacket off (I know...), you till look quite "dressed" with the waistcoat.

Re: Reid & Taylor Bronze Eagle
A fantastic fit, judging by the photo. Those sort of mixed-thread worsted suits (it is worsted, right?) were popular mid-century but you rarely see them now.

He always seemed like a cool dude but also kind of fun, not too serious.
I honestly didn't realise he was still alive.
RIP, JP.

Re: Last Bow Tie Day
Looks good! It is a bit of a trick balancing the smaller bow tie with the large surface of a suit, especially when DB or 3pc. This combo works well. I should concur with JayDeputy about the practical use of bow ties. Shrinks like them, of course, because they protect one from strangulation by patie...

Re: Last Bow Tie Day
I have heard it said “ most men who wear bow ties do so because most men don’t “ - any thoughts? Regards Snapper Not so long ago, I wrote a piece about the three main types of vintage aficionados / retrocentrics. But it could also apply to other stylistic choices. In my opinion, some fellows will p...
