Re: Highest Quality Bespoke Ties

Nice to see this thread still being debated 6 years after I took a few uncertain steps down the bespoke path. Having bought in that period from Charvet, Turnbull & Asser and Sam Hober, in my humble opinion, David is in a class by himself.

Re: Highest Quality Bespoke Ties

Reviewing this thread several years on from when I posted it, I am struck by how the rankings have changed. Specifically, David and his team at Sam Hober have moved from 4th place to 1st place-very telling. David has been working on a bow tie project for me recently and, as ever, his guidance, atten...

Re: Bespoke Tailors Benevolent Association

Costi. Beautifully written. I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments while, I suspect, not being able to communicate them as effectively.

Most people need to give much more generally, self included.

Re: I wonder about SR quality

I've always stuck to the much smaller former row alumni (Mahon, etc)-I genuinely think they care more about the final result. Can't comment on my experiences with the big houses (because I don't have any), but I don't hear many good things. That being said, for that level of spend, you need to get a...

I happened to put this to T and A earlier today when I stopped by-they beg to differ.

Re: Good shirtmaker in UK

Vassilis: I find myself green with jealousy. I agree with your comments re RTW-£190 is not reasonable. i believe I only pay approx 220 for bespoke there. I plan on visitng Budd in the coming weeks, however, should you wish to share details of your makers in Athens and Rome, i will bestow honorary Sc...

Re: Good shirtmaker in UK

Well, I know they would describe my shirts as bespoke and I've always thought of them as bespoke. It appears however that they do not meet the definition of bespoke espoused by some fellow members.

Re: Good shirtmaker in UK

Goodness. I leave the lounge for a mere 2 years and all these interesting conversations break out. I think Michael sums it up well with his wine analogy-if you're happy with what you have, then all is well. I've dealt with Liam De Vanney at Turnbulls for 5 years now. I have no idea of their shirts a...

Re: For those who speak German

Glad you liked it. I'm told by some acting friends of mine that I shouldn't give up the day job. TM does claim that this is the quickest suit he has ever produced - start to finish in about a week. It's the 2nd time we've done this - the ITV effort took about 15 minutes. This, believe it or not, abo...

For those who speak German

and even for those who don't, I thought some members might appreciate seeing one of our artisans - Mr Thomas Mahon - transform a rather scruffy looking individual into someone much more presentable. I have new found respect for actors and actresses after this endeavour - the German producers require...

Re: Correct Length for Bespoke Knitwear

Thanks for the advice. Being Scottish born and bred I do have a weakness for Johnsons of Elgin, but of course they don't do bespoke and the sizes that fit me around the chest are just too long. Definitely can't be worn when you wear trousers at or above the navel as I like to do.

Correct Length for Bespoke Knitwear

Gentlemen:

I'd be very grateful for any advice that may be offered on the above topic. Planning on having a couple of pieces made up and not terribly sure what I should be looking for in terms of length.

Many thanks

Mr Michael Campy of classicwardrobe.com

Gentlemen: Not sure where this post really belongs, but will leave it to the moderators' wisdom. Since I returned to the UK from the US a few years ago, decent customer service has been a rare experience for me. However, I'm delighted to be able to report that the above individual has shown that he ...
