Why would you want to wear a white tie with a dinner jacket? To stand out? Sounds like gauche novelty.
As for wearing a four-in-hand instead, surely that breaks up the white expanse of shirt and takes away the juxtaposition of black and white?

Re: Prince William's Wedding Attire
In the end he thankfully went for a real uniform that wasn't a polyester blend. All over the world wrote:I hope he wears an RAF uniform! So much better than just wearing morning dress.

Re: Prince William's Wedding Attire
It's probable that he will opt for an RAF uniform but will he go for the full dress like the Duke of York (George VI) or will he just wear service dress? http://www.blogcdn.com/www.aisledash.com/media/2008/04/queenmotherwed4.jpg http://james-sherwood.com/images/exhibitions/archive_500h/11.jpg RAF fu...

Re: Trews
I am unable to give any more information than is presented in the Wikipedia article on trews. However I do have an interesting picture of officers of the Highland Light Infantry in full dress wearing trews, the only Highland regiment to have done so. http://i684.photobucket.com/albums/vv209/Bham_Gre...

Re: A request for suggestions
I don't think it would be appropriate for military memorials or indeed formal occasions in general. Civilian attire very often draws influence from military uniforms and going by your description this garment strikes me as the kind of thing one would imagine bohemians or mods to have worn in the 60s.

Re: Homburg or Coke/Bowler Hat
Unfortunately I can't imagine a Guards, or cavalry, officer, wearing 'mufti' (though this was used to refer to civilian attire in general and not just the bowler hat and lounge suit worn to parades) outside of Black Sunday or the like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Dvwiq1gbLE&feature=related Perso...

Re: New tailcoat
I would have to agree with Charles.
Do you think you'd be able to attach a picture showing the trousers as well, given that you had talked of a preference for a somewhat slimmer cut?

Re: Ataturk
I can't say the slimmer roll collar is to my taste either but it served to show that there is a precedent for such a lapel on a full dress coat. 'Innovators' and 'traditionalists' may have contended its suitability, what with the relative formality of the full dress coat versus dinner or smoking jac...

Here's a fashion plate of a full dress coat with a shawl collar.
Also, as shown in my previous post, I rather like the braided edges on the waistcoat, like the one shown in this illustration.

Re: Morning Dress - Gloves
Yellow chamois gloves used to be the thing and CJ do them but do not heavily advertise them. I have no idea why this is so. But there we are. I now nearly expect an avalanche of protestation against 'rules'. NJS. Isn't a part of good dressing knowing the rules so that you know which ones you...

I am with DFR here. Though I can't imagine I shall commission a full dress suit any time soon it is something I would very much like to own one day and words can only tell us so much.

Gloves
Gentlemen As I dare to venture away from plain black and brown leathers I find myself bewildered by the range of options open to me when it comes to a choice of materials for gloves. Suede, buckskin, hogskin, calfskin, chamois...what is their relation to one another (i.e. I have read buckskin descri...
