Re: Style for 1st Bespoke Overcoat

Thanks for the input. Definitely going to use this photo as my starting point and just work with my tailor to suit my needs. Out of curiosity what is the official name of this style of overcoat? I hear people call this a Chesterfield but thought a Chesterfield had to be SB with velvet collar. Look f...

Style for 1st Bespoke Overcoat

I was hoping to get some input on what would be a great first overcoat (or really to confirm my decision). The primary purpose will be winter coat for NYC and I will be a mid 20's corporate attorney. The coat is going to be in Navy (not too dark though a really nice color of blue, JJ Minnis Melton 1...

Re: Things you wish you knew on first visit with Tailor

And actually after further thought what are some of the features that should be left off a first bespoke suit that distinguish it too much?

Re: Things you wish you knew on first visit with Tailor

Everybody, thank you very much for the insight. I really appreciate it. And the advice is what I was hoping to hear, which is nice. I have my cloth that I am going to use (Navy Dugdale Broth. English Classic), a couple of pictures of suits I like, and some black horn buttons that I purchased. From t...

Things you wish you knew on first visit with Tailor

I will be meeting with Gordon Yao on his upcoming trip to San Francisco for measurements and discussing the details of suits I will get made up. In late summer I'll be in Hong Kong for the fitting process. This will be my first foray into custom clothing. I was wondering if members could share their...

Re: True Bespoke vs. E-tailoring

I agree that I don't get very excited about e tailoring. I like E "insert whatever" for most everything else but one of the reasons that I find tailoring so interesting is the history behind it. Part of the fun for me is spending the time to select the right cloth (and researching where the cloth co...

Re: Dugdale Bros. Question

Again, thank you everybody for the help. I actually just contacted several of the HK tailors I am thinking about using and got quotes anywhere from 5 meters to 5.75 meters. I still have a lot to learn about classical mens style and I am trying to get it right and still express my personal style so I...

Re: Dugdale Bros. Question

Thanks for the help everybody. I'll have to look through some more of their books. The only book I saw was their English Classics. Great looking stuff though and the price was unbelievable. Seemed almost too good to be true. On another note can somebody help me with how much cloth I need for a suit....

Dugdale Bros. Question

I recently found several Dugdale Bros. cloths that I like in their English Classics book. One was a Navy Pick & Pick and the other was a Grey Pick & Pick. The cloth weight was 13 to 14oz. Was wondering if anybody has any experience with this cloth and could attest to how well it makes up, how durabl...

Re: Must have cloths?

Rowly, I would be interested to hear where you research leads you. I am doing the same search now and haven't read though about a grey in pick and pick. I might give that a look. Right now the cloths that are must haves for me based on age and profession (25 years old and about to be a corporate att...

Re: Must have cloths?

Rowly, I am in the same boat as you in trying to determine my personal style. I can recommend a couple of books I recently read that are excellent. "Dressing the Man" by Alan Flusser and "The Suit" by Manton. They really help to understand the basics and fundamentals for you to expand upon. Next, my...
