Re: Thoughts of home

Very powerful and evocative, Mr. Storey, and that comes from someone who has only spent a few weeks in England. Further, as a life-long American Irish-Catholic melancholic, I hasten to mention that were I you, I'd do my best to look at my situation thusly: "Dudes! I'm in freaking RIO!!" 8)

Re: The Old Masters

If Hem lived long enough to be considered old we have broadly expanded our sample... I'm presuming by your example you mean gents who were successfully productive late in the game as opposed to late bloomers. In no particular order: Albert Hadley Peter O'Toole Mick Jagger Helmut Newton Irving...

That's funny, D. Thanks for posting that. I happen to like leaving one or two cuff buttons open. What the hell---live a little.

Slightly OT but I'd like to say that I can think of no film or TV productions of literary work that so well capture the spirit of the original material as do the episodes of Jeeves and Wooster as portrayed by Fry and Laurie. I'm a long-time, albeit casual, fan of Plum--as well as Fry and Laurie and ...

Oh my God by all means make sure you button them all at all times no matter what. Also, button all three buttons on your suit coat and button the bottom button of your vest and button the top button of your shirts when you're not wearing a tie. One wouldn't want to be thought 'gauche' by another one...

I've got two E Steams, one at home and one at the office. I also have a J2000 at home.

There's really not much that can break on them. Here's where to go:

Gig line

Anyone remember it or know what it is? I'm wondering how the American Army's standard of dress has affected formal (well, lounge/business) dress in the United States: Edge of belt buckle, edge of shirt placket and edge of the trouser fly/placket all in a crisp vertical line. It's how I 'dress' and I...

I have an aversion to mixing metals--the color, really, not the metal itself--that not only goes from watch to wedding ring but also spectacles, belt buckle, shoe buckles, and the hardware on braces and cases. I used to have both gold and silver accessories and swap stuff around according to whateve...

No. I live in Seattle and can count on one hand the number of bow ties I've seen on the street downtown in 11 years--let alone in a business setting. I used to live in St. Louis and would wear one every once-in-a-while but mostly with a jacket and trousers, not a suit. Were I to live in Charlotte I ...

While the Isaia pieces fit and look alright, I haven't even gotten close to what I'm after yet. It's become clear to me now that the balance and proportion of a perfectly fitted garment can only be had through bespoke. I dunno, Chris. This is interesting to me...I've been watching your posts as you...
