I have not heard of a Canadian website that would be helpful. If you want a custom woven repp stripe and have three to four months (sometimes faster but best not to rush a custom weave) you could have roughly a dozen standard construction ties or half a dozen six-folds. You could save time by having...

I saw some unraveled threads in my N&L grenadine tie -- after just ten or so wearings... Anyone else has similiar experience? Andrey Andrey, I have not seen a N&L grenadine tie in person, but from the photos on their website their grenadine ties looks very nice. A real grenadine silk will have a pe...

tteplitzmd, Thank you for your kind words, I am glad that you like your ties. I have not forgotten our discussions about scarves. I am working on some ideas, and while I do have probably 40+ of Atkinsons Irish poplins on hand ( with more on the horizon) I do not have any beautiful lambswool. The sca...

The resident silk, tie and pocket square expert, how nice. Just the right person I need. Mr Hober, could you kindly tell me what the difference is between a pocket square and a handkerchief, please? Happy Stroller, My article on the history of the pocket square is a work in progress but perhaps it ...

Maintaining Silks

Mr Hober As a resident silk, tie and pocket square expert you might be able to give our readers a short primer on maintaining their silks: cleaning, ironing, storing etc Thanks M Alden M Alden, Certainly, it will be my pleasure. Happy Stroller, There is no correct answer to your pocket square question. 1) As Iammatt says you need to take into consideration the size of your pocket 2) You should also consider the thickness of your fabric. 3) And of course do you like your pocket square to just peek out of the pocket, be a nor...

Editorial II: the real threat

Gentlemen, What stuns me is that etailors are paying loads of money for sites that do not present their products well. I can’t say that I ever spent time looking at tailor’s web sites other than englishcut (which is a model unto its own and a source of great information on custom clothes and tailor...

I am curious as to why you seem not to be fond of prints? First and foremost, it's the silk. Most of the silk used for prints is thin, insubstantial dreck. Second, I don't like the majority of the designs, which fall into two camps: cartoony (Hermes, Ferragamo, Vinyard Vines) and "pizza grenade" (t...

99% of prints are dreck. OK, maybe 95%. At their best, printed ties can be better than wovens, but at their best they are rare. Hand printing is especially rare. Flusser had some killer prints this year, better silk than Vanners; the ties were probably made by Drake. I only bought one because they ...

Of course printed. The beauty of a hand-printed tie cannot be compared to machine-wovens. Jacquard loom is a relatively new invention. And of course salesmen and marketing do push for wovens as their silk cost less than half. And if you think they are usually sold at same price ... but there are al...

I voted for wovens but it was a close call as I love to wear prints also.

Sounds like a good plan.

Laptops these days seam to be getting slimmer, lighter and tougher so perhaps cushioning is not as important as it used to be.

Koleco,

Your design looks good.

I have a practical question:

How will you handle cushioning to protect your laptop? I have seen modern bags with cushioning both on the inside bottom and sides.

The English navy/midnight blue Oxford weave silk has arrived in Colorado. I shall send you a pm regarding a swatch.

I have not seen the gray Kiton tie. Is it silk or wool?
