Re: Tom Baker, Soho — Impressions — or Other Suggestions?

I've also used Connock and Lockie, and am very pleased with the result. They're slow, in part because Mr. Craig is something of a perfectionist. Only to be expected, I suppose, since he trained under Colin Hammick at Huntsman. I agree that they do tend towards more offbeat commissions, but also make...

Re: Best cloths for tailoring Rus in Urbe?

For Rus in Urbe tweeds, you should also consider the Hartwist book from Porter & Harding. I've got a jacket from that book, and it's got a wonderful hand. Great patterns too.

Re: Need Advice --- Most "Modern" Cut on the Row?

Allow me to suggest that you consider a few off-row tailors as well? I can personally recommend Chris Kerr, and I've heard very good things about John Pearse and Timothy Everest. Ideally, any bespoke tailor should be capable of creating any style of suit you want (or at least anything, "within the b...

Re: Choosing a tailor in London

Thanks for the comments, gentlemen. I'd love to show you the finished coat, but I haven't seen it yet myself. Since my last comment, I did have one additional fitting at the end of November, which was (to my surprise) still at the skeleton baste stage. I believe that the next fitting (which should h...

Re: Stripes Meeting at Collar, Lapels, and Shoulders

Thomas Mahon posted an article on this in his blog a few years back: http://www.englishcut.com/2005/11/08/th ... ng-myth-2/

It's an interesting explanation of the problem that Old Henry alluded to.

Second skeletal baste fitting

Gentleman, I apologize for not posting this sooner, but it's been a hectic couple of weeks. 2 weeks ago, I had my second skeletal baste fitting with Mr. Craig at Connock & Lockie. The primary reason we needed a second skeletal baste fitting, was because, as a new bespeaker, I had been less than clea...

Re: Choosing a tailor in London

I've just had my first baste fitting with Connock and Lockie. There were a few fit issues, nothing that can't be fixed. I've been told to expect another baste fitting in 2-3 weeks.

I'm very pleased with the experience so far, and the fabrics (especially the flannel for the trousers) are lovely.

Re: Choosing a tailor in London

Thank you all for the responses. This kind of advice is part of what makes this forum so valuable. Costi, I really like the "architecture" metaphor for my input to the jacket. I'd already been thinking vaguely along those lines, but you have summed up my vague notions with clarity and simplicity. Tw...

Re: Choosing a tailor in London

You have to explain to me, though, why you are wearing a half-Norfolk jacket to work? :) Well, It's not exactly going to be a norfolk jacket, but the intent was to have something less overtly "dressy" than even a typical sport coat. As to the "at work" question, well, I'm a software architect in th...

Re: Antoniou or Sims & MacDonald vs the Georges

No doubt he's a very able man, but I'm afraid that's a bit too expensive for me at the moment. His website says suits start at £1200, while Sims & MacDonald's says £875. (I understand Mr Antoniou's prices are similar.) Also, I'm not sure if his style isn't too much showbiz for me. Then again, I'm s...

Re: Choosing a tailor in London

I had an appointment on monday to begin my bespoke experience with Connock and Lockie. Mr. Craig was very helpful and friendly throughout the meeting, and took the time to explain some aspects of how some of my choices would (or would not) affect construction of the coat, and the overall look of the...

Re: Antoniou or Sims & MacDonald vs the Georges

Connock and Lockie are significantly more expensive than Sims & MacDonald, as Pagoda reported. I've just placed an order with C&L, myself, after investigating my options. This is my first "true bespoke" commission, and to me, the extra fittings, the additional handwork, advice, and the explanations ...

Re: Choosing a tailor in London

Thank you for the responses, such a dizzying array of choices! It's been said before, but this forum really is an amazing resource. Thanks! I've now spoken with a number of other tailors, including all those mentioned on this thread. I've decided, for now, to try Connock and Lockie, and I have an ap...

Re: Omega Restoration

My wife gave me a lovely silver 1912 Omega trench watch for my birthday (which I'll probably alternate with the IWC which is my daily wear). It was unfortunately gaining time at the rate of approximately 4 minutes/hour, so I've taken it in to the Antique Watch Co. in Clerkenwell (which was recommend...

Choosing a tailor in London

Gentlemen, I am currently in the process of exploring my options, and choosing a tailor in London. I thought I would post here, in the hopes of getting some advice and opinions. I'm hoping to find a tailor that I can build a long term relationship with. I can expect to be able to commission one to t...
