Re: The new London Lounge

I'm officially logged into the new Lounge for the first time! I'm very glad that the Lounge is back up and running. Thank you to Mr. Alden and all who have helped. May we all enjoy the new Lounge and our discussions here!

I think the point here is authenticity. If you read carefully, what Boyer is saying is: You get the impression that those guys are judging you. But that is not true . The fact is authenticity really matters to them . In the inauthentic world of fashion they are the ones for whom authenticity matter...

Actually, you might even say that he used his generous dimensions to his advantage. You know it just occurred to me that there was a real logic to his wearing 3 pc suits as a large man. The waistcoat hides the paunch and insures a continuity of line. I learn something new everyday. Cheers M Alden I...

For almost everything concerning pipe tobacco, I recommend visiting http://www.tobaccoreviews.com. I did a quick perusal of some popular Dunhill flavors and found at least one was discontinued and people were now stockpiling.

I'm sorry to have taken so long to get back The Lounge on this thread. I have heard the programme (something that required me to make an appointment at the British Library) and it was very disappointing. The programme told one very little that isn't obvious, and spent far too long interviewing the ...

Use as stiff a brush as you can find. I have seen cordovan leather polished on a motor driven belt polisher with nearly sand paper like brushes attached. The same treatment would turn calf leather into shredded carrot salad. So brush the daylights out of it and the natural oils will polish the shoe...

I sincerely hope that we get to the second round (I will find a way to buy at least the navy from the first round). Has anybody thought about a brown check on a cream ground for the second round? The illustration seems to show a check (shepard's or houndstooth?) and the idea intrigues me. However, s...

HappyStroller, thank you for the link! One thing I notice about these trousers and all period trousers from the '30s is that they not only sit at the waist but then continue on up the back. Personally, I'd love to try on a pair of pants cut for me in this manner. Contemporary trousers with a "long r...

The three piece charcoal suit is about as high as you can get on the scale of formality before proper (semi)formal dress, so no wonder people notice you're dressed up. A two piece mid-grey, navy or striped suit will probably look less formal and more business. It also depends on your line of work. ...

See now, this thread confuses me. It is said that one should dress down for business and dress up for play. Yet, I'm not sure that we have the same meanings here. It seems that so far those who have responded in this thread believe that dressing down versus up is a matter of... showiness? or perhaps...

I am leary of putting anything of value into Wikipedia, as open editing allows anyone, knowledgeable or ignorant, well-meaning or destructive, so to edit and reëdit as to render useless and risible anything posted there. However, a "Wiki" could be added to the Lounge. Having a reference section her...

Etutee: I have read this thread since you started it and put a lot of thought into what I would like to see as a next topic. While watching television tonight I was suddenly struck by the idea of casual clothes. I'm not sure how to describe it except as casual or sport clothes in name. Worked out in...

I think that the contrast between dark pants and light jacket is grat but I don't know why you matched the shirt to the pants, I wouldn't. I don't think that is good. I prefer if you wear navy trousers and a tan odd jacket, to wear a light blue or red or maybe yellow polo, or a striped polo in whit...

Another option is to wear dark coloured trousers with a light coloured jacket and a shirt, as it is often depicted on the AA illustrations or in Will's last entry: http://asuitablewardrobe.dynend.com/2008/06/color-balance.html (you can vary the formality by removing the waistcoat and/or necktie, or...

Mr Alden, The original poster was looking for a price range of $450 or there-a-bouts. The website doesn't list prices. Could you confirm that Carmina shoes are in the range? I'm asking because I just spent about that much on a new pair of Allen Edmonds ready to wear and after seeing the craftsmanshi...
